How to use Mentions - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Can someone help me understand how to use mentions?

I've tried pasting a username in between the mention tags like so:

<MENTION>insert username here</MENTION>

But ususally all I get is this:

@

To mention somebody, just type it this way
@Cjymiller

Just an @ sign before the username. No spacing

These don't always work. I had a mention work once but I have found several mentions since then that I didn't receive. I used mentions a couple times for certain people and they didn't receive them.

The other way is to visit the user's profile which will be listed as:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/member.php?u=1105

That number at the end shows the member number and you can put that in the mention tag like this:

@This is an Allch Chcar mention

That mention didn't work. If you check my mentions it doesn't show up there either.

The mentions don't always show up regardless of how they are done, although I think that if you mess it up the first time and have to edit your post, they probably don't get sent to the user as a notification.
