Using OFT on Mac
I have found a way to run both OpenFlash Manager and TunerPro on Mac OSX using wine bottler software. I'll walk you through how to set it up.
What I don't know is if it will communicate with the OFT once plugged into my mac. Start by downloading the Wine Bottle software from http://winebottler.kronenberg.org |

after installing the software click on the wine glass logo at the top of your screen and open the file manager.
From here you will be able to run your .exe programs just as you would on a windows based computer |

I am able to start both programs but I can't get the tuner pro manager to fully initialize (most likely because I don't have the OFT plugged in)

And that's where I'm at. If anyone has the OFT and Mac OS X and would be willing to verify the compatibility using this process I would greatly appreciate it.

Stable enough to trust for flashing?
I keep a parallels xp instal for Cobb access tuner and vag com (vw diagnostic software) But neither of those involve flashing direct from the laptop. |

With the OFT at least your're just moving the rom to the tablet and not flashing your car directly, so it seems like it would be safe enough to do with parallels or VMware fusion. I've been running fusion for a few years now and the USB support is pretty reliable now. I'll be trying Ecuflash from VMWare when I get my tactrix cable, which I think is a bit more dangerous than putting Roms on the tablet.
The editors are straightforward, the USB element worries me a bit though for flashing. - AdrianG |

Can a mac user explain why they buy a mac and then use programs to be able to run "PC" apps? What is the advantage? Didn't mac stop using their own processors and using "pc" processors now?

I used to run VMware to flash the car but learned that with Bootcamp the flash happens stupidly faster, so the only reason to have it is to run ECUtek. Edit: Maybe I misunderstood, maybe you mean using an app in lieu of a parallels or boot camp?

many people prefer the mac interface/ux/stability/unixyness/tools but still need to use legacy apps that are only available for windows. this OFT software is one example of why you may need to do that. mac and pcs do use the same processors nowadays, which facilitates this. so you can run windows apps on a mac, but you can't run mac apps on a windows box, if that makes any sense. |
