Lol... Now I'm really curious what they come up with as a competitor.

This is what my drive back to the bay from the valley looked like. Combination of strong winds and dry/dusty farms. This must be what it felt like in the dust bowl.

Damn I went to lunch and got a $55 parking ticket because I parked in a "Monday Street Sweeping 12-3" zone. Thanks city of Alameda for your revenue generating street sweeping zones.

So I had a weird discussion/encounter yesterday... after having lunch with a friend we were outside the restaurant getting ready to get in my car and leave. An older dude walks up and starts asking about my car. He has no idea what it is so I go into the usual spiel about how Subaru and Toyota did a joint venture project blah blah. He wants to know like really specific stuff, like what kind of suspension it has, what the gear ratio of 6th gear is, where in the RPM range the maximum torque is, etc. I am admittedly not a full encyclopedia of knowledge on the matter and didnt know I was going to be quizzed on it after lunch, but every time I give a less than stellar answer to his questions, he digresses into a deeper discussion like he means to teach me all there is to know about cars and engines. He gets into what an 'overdrive' 6th gear is, talks about the differences between independent and live-axle suspensions, and about how HP is a fabricated number derived from applying a formula to the torque readings. Oddly enough he did not know what a boxer engine was. He was wearing a Harley Davidson t-shirt so perhaps he is more of a muscle/biker kind of guy, although he said he was driving a VW GLI.

My friend (who is not really into cars) was kind of standing by idly for a while and this guy went on and on for about 10 min I think. Finally my friend kind of steps in at a brief lull in the conversation and attempts to rescue me. I kind of apologetically say to the guy (who at this point wants me to pop the hood so he can begin a full disassembly analysis) that I have to get going, my friend and I have somewhere to be (getting away from this nutty professor!). He responds kind of huffily, "whatever". I give one last shot at being somewhat "friendly" by saying, yeah, so if you are really interested in it check it out at a Toyota dealer. No response so I get in the car and get the hell out of there ...

Aaaaand there's your problem.

All that bs about axles, 6th gear ratios, and peak rpm torque. Gimme a break. Like you said, he needs to get down to a Toyota dealer and drive one, then all those questions won't matter.
