IIRC, the first generation IS300 was noted as being nimble and more fun than the Bimmers in spirited driving, but was too twitchy for everyday use.

Still, if you had a chance to drive one, it was something special (just don't wait around to pay for the gas).

Toyota is just holding this car back at this point. Let them have their Scion sedan/Hybrid bs and give Subaru exclusive rights to this car.

It will be interesting if Toyota/Scion put puts around and does nothing with this car while Subaru drops an FA20T in it for no price increase.
Regal, sometimes you're spot on but this is one of those times you need to stop talking and listen. You have no clue what you're talking about in this regard. The D4-S was chosen so they could hit a power output with a certain level of emissions, which was at a huge added expense BTW. In EU and Japan, Carbon emissions are the great satan. Passing those emissions is the only way engineers could justify selling this car in so many places. In Norway they can buy a Model S for less than a GT86! People here will always gripe about it needing more power.

In my case, I would rather drive a performance hybrid than a turbocharged ICE. The rumor is that Toyota is designing a performance biased hybrid system just for this purpose.

I believe a Corolla is almost the same price as a Telsa in Norway, read it on Reddit where the country has laws that give electric cars lots of freebies.

Then those people who govern those regulations should go back to school. Electricity is not a green energy as people think it is. Scientifically speaking Electricity is being overly used as much as many countries considering nuclear and coal to generate electricity.

Last time I check charcoal is worse than oil, and nuclear reaction? Chernobril is there for a lesson

Nuclear is darn near the cleanest and safest energy source available. Chernobyl has no relevance to modern (or even older western designed) nuclear plant safety.

(As for coal, I won't argue with you there).

I wouldn't mind a four door "coupe" ala Mazda RX8. All the conveniences of four doors, without the four door look.

Found another story on it with different renderings. Don't know how accurate they are, but the song remains the same.

As of August 2013, 96% of Norway's electricity came from hydropower. The rest is from geothermal and wind. Norway likes to export its oil...

LOL sure a Tesla S might be "cheap" in Norway, but you get taxed out of the ass on a regular basis so the government can do such frivolous things

Unfortunately, not all countries are equally-blessed with hydro and geothermal sources.
For the majority, it seems that electricity will still require generation using some form of non-renewable resources.

Nuclear and natural gas may be the most promising (and clean coal is supposed to be pretty good too).

But the idea is still the same: the energy that goes into creating a "green" vehicle is almost invariably much higher than we are led to believe, especially once you factor in the costs of extracting the various metals and resources needed for powertrain, battery etc. components.
