Anyone gonna widen the stock wheels?

I want to keep the car looking stock-ish, and was playing with the idea of widening two of them to 8" so I could cleanly get a 245 tire on it. Anyone done this or thinking the same thing? Not looking for weight savings, I just don't really seen an aftermarket company making a wider stock rim

if your saying that you haven't seen an frs or brz with wider than stock size wheels then you have to keep looking brotha haha there are plenty of us on here with sizes up to 19x10s lol ... that size tire may be a little too wide for an 8 inch wheel but if your sticking with a 17 inch stock rim diameter look for a wheel thats 8 inches and run a 235 tire ... check the wheel sticky on these forums it wil show you what flush is for the car

I'm saying I want to keep my factory wheels (ones in my sig), widen them to 8" and put a 245 tire on them

And by widen you mean buy another set that is wider, not actually widen the wheels you have? If that's the case I also like that idea a lot. There is a custom wheel maker by me but they charge 250 to fix a curbed wheel I can't imagine how much a new set would cost.

I have a feeling he may be talking about cutting the wheels in half around the circumference and widening them by inserting a piece into them to make them wider, which I have NEVER heard of being done. Maybe on a steel wheel, but not on an alloy. (I know someone who used to make wide-ass wheels for riding mowers)

This. And there are a couple companies doing it. I know for awhile there were not aftermarket 10th anniversary cobra wheels for the mustang cobra, so a couple guys on the forums had them widened. There is actually a guy in here in Los Angeles that does it for $250 a wheel. I would just to two for the rear.

oh okay i understand... why not just put a 235 tire on there and call it a day ... You probably will not even notice the difference other than an empty pocket haha... get some spacers to make the wheels flush with the car and boom

I've heard of guys having their stock Mustang wheels widened on some of the Mustang forums I'm on. There are a couple of companies that do this, and the guys that have had it done seem generally happy with the results

Widening wheels can be possible, but you're going to need some spacers to push them out a bit and open up some clearance on the inside. Some people say it's safe for performance driving. I've seen it look nice for an LS430 keeping stock wheels. I feel a little concerned driving hard on it, but it's great for the look if you truly like the look of the stock wheel.

Just put 20mm spacers on the back. love how it fills out the rear, just want the tire to match the look. That is what reminded me of the mustang guys doing this

If that's the case, then increase the width to 9". You will be able to run a 255 sized tire on a stock looking wheel.
