In his budget, we were looking at 06-07 Caymans and a few cheap higher mileage Cayman S'. S2ks were well under the price range but they were often fairly beat up.

The issue with the Cayman was that the just didn't feel that nice. Coming from the FRS, the gearbox felt imprecise and the car just didn't feel twice as punchy as an FRS. The Cayman S was better, but between finding a decent one and all the threads about IMS failure, we stayed away.

The S2k was almost in the bag but we found a Supra that he just couldn't pass up. And the Supra was always the top choice because it does the best job of being practical, comfortable, fast, and trackable. He came from a G35, so it made the most sense.

People forget (don't even know?) Supras can fucking handle. Double wishbone front suspension and better f:r weight distribution than the twins ain't just for show. Plus 120 more hp, over double the torque, ridiculous braking and only ~500 lbs more weight.

Killer find.

Thought this was serious until I got to the last line. A tip of the hat to your snark, good sir.

@Guff That Supra is a killer find. I'm amazed you found one bone stock with that low mileage. Mind sharing how much the owner wanted for it? Just curious.

Well, the KBB on the car is around 43k, which is right around correct market value. He got it for considerably less than that, so it was definitely a steal. Especially considering the fact that the car is a 1 owner car. The original owner bought it in 1997 and then sold it in 2000 to the owner of a dealership network. He kept it registered as a dealer car and stored it in his showroom for 13 years, only taking it out occasionally in the Fall or late Spring to take it lunch or drive around town, etc. My friend bought it from this dealer and dealt with the owner directly and I'm not sure the owner really knew what it was worth... The Supra market his spiked in the last two years and cars are more valuable then they ever have been.

All in all, a good ass find! And I get to drive it all the time!

Hrmm really? I sat in a 2014 Cayman and played with the manual shifter a few weeks ago, it felt REALLY nice, though maybe that's because my MR2's shifter has just as much play as any other 15 year old econobox. But seriously, the linkage felt extremely solid and the gears would engage in a very short distance with a solid click. Makes me curious how the 7 speed in the 911 fares.

Oh, we were definitely not looking at 2014s. His budget wasn't nearly that high... We were looking at 05-07 Caymans...

The 2014s are apparently much better and far more refined than ever before... I would love to drive one!
