First Solo Event in a decade...
Morning fellow enthusiasts! This weekend I am taking the BRZ to the final solo event of the season. I wanted to get my feet wet so I could dream about next season all winter. That said I wanted to get some insight from those of you that have done autocross as in the BRZ of anything I should be mindful of. Right now my goal is to learn the car, learn its limits (with respect to the workers/other drivers) and just generally have a good time.
I participated in a couple solo events nearly 10 years ago with my 93 240sx SE coupe as well as an HPDE. As far as I'm concerned I'm starting from scratch though. I've driven RWD cars & manuals for the last 15 years exclusively so I'm not new to them. Would you guys reccommend leaving all the nannies on? VSC Sport? Turn everything off (hold 3 seconds.) I'm not sure how many runs my heat will do and I would like to get a accurate feel for the car. I'm open to advice. I should add the registrar recommended I do Cstock or novice, didn't really matter. I signed up as cstock. Anyway I appreciate any advice & tips. With this car the goal is to stretch its legs a bit THEN mod it, based off what I feel it needs most, not just what will make it look good flossing at 15mph. |

- turn all nanies off
- c-stock only if you're on hoosiers, otherwise register as RTR have fun... the only advice i can give you is 1. understand that undsteer is usually a sign you're going too fast for a corner rather than a fault with the car's setup... and 2. understand that you can't "save" a poorly executed corner. If you went too fast, turned too late/early, don't try to save it by turning more or mashing the throttle to "rotate it". You've messed the corner up, accept it. The best thing to do is to do whatever it takes to set the car up for the next corner. If you've overcooked your fronts from scrubbing off speed or rears from sliding, you won't be in an optimal position for the next section. So just relax and try to gently bring the car back in line. Mistakes are fixed during the next run, not during your current one. the rest is just track time...
