So question, is an extra $120 worth the extra 10mm to go from 225/45/17's to 235/40/17's? How would slightly larger footprint balance the additional pinching of the tires?

I think Trevor is running the 235 dunlops?

Wouldn't the 40-profile also give you better response as well since the 40-profile would be sitffer?

I drove his car on those 235/40s

They are AWESOME. I've always argued against anything (street) over 225 on a 7" wheel but that changed my mind in a hurry.

Shorter is stiffer but the slight over-tiring reduces it but I wouldnt say it felt worse than a 225. This is my Z2 size of choice.

I think the optimal tire sizes should vary depending on whether you have lighter rims, sidewall stiffness of different brands, gearing decisions, etc. I'd want 235/40 ZIIs, but probably 225/45 for Rivals and maybe 215/45 RS3s.

I'm curious to see what options we'll have for 2014.

Has anyone tried the new Yoko or Bridgestone options yet in "Street?"

So what else is out there in terms of wheels that would be C-street/RTR-legal next year besides RPF1s and Kosei K1s? Not really a fan of those two, but everything else I see on tirerack is either too wide of has an offset >45mm?
I might even take 18x7, if there was a light enough option.

You'll probably have to search various forums for used wheels. You can find wheels like 16x7 Rota Slipstreams. I don't remember the exact weight, but they're under 14lbs.

So that makes me wonder how a 245/40 Z2 might do. I've read all about how street tires don't like to be pinched but it seems to work well for the Z2.

Discount Tire has a legal option that might be relatively light? MB Wheels Weapon 17x7 +48

There are so few options, but maybe more will show up next year.

I think 245 is just too wide for the existing crop of street tires. I have not seen anyone try it, so let us know if you do.

I take it your reply means that there's nothing available new for reasonable money in 1?x7 +42-45 offset besides RPFs and K1s?

I'm not buying used Rotas, or any used cast wheels for that matter. You can never be sure how much abuse they endured and how much strength remains.
With quality forged at least one can hope that there's some strength left...

IIRC they are aroun 19-20lbs, and offset is too high anyway.

It's going to be difficult to find new wheels that are in the RPF1 and K1 price and weight ranges. I think you still can get new Rotas in the required offsets and in 16/17/18x7.

i'd check for cracks and balance prior to tire fitment.
