That suggests the 'ethanol free' that causes the chirps in the US still has some ethanol.
Or perhaps gas stations have different gas than their pumps indicate.

Which, in most states, would be illegal.

How is it that some users report running no ethanol fuel kills the crickets but others like myself it has no effect?

Because ethanol is only a suspected cause, not proven (as you can attest). The community doesn't really know why it chirps.

Ok, our dealership's master tech just got off the phone with our Toyota Rep. He took a video of the chirp and is sending it their way. The rep says my vin# is not an effected unit; however it definitely is. My fuel pump was changed the first time with the bulletin posted in July. A new service bulletin was posted in September with a different part# for the fuel pump. Part # SU00305176 is what the new bulletin calls for but it is also back-ordered and say it will be a while before the part comes in. I guess I will wait and see when and if the new pump will fix this problem. I'll post any other news I may come across

It's all in their mind. I could hear crickets if I open my windows at a stop and if I really listen carefully. Most of the time, it's not so obnoxious as other's cars. I've yet to hear a really loud cricket noise in person.

hahahahahaha

One users experience/hearing/understanding is not equal to every other users experience.

I wasn't implying that the issue does not exist. Someone had a question and I merely answered truthfully to my knowledge lol. Care to explain why some say non-ethanol makes the noise go away while it doesn't do anything with others?

another update.... Toyota said my VIN# should not be effected by the "crickets". They asked the mechanic to turn off the direct injection and see if they chirp went away, and it did not. It is for sure the fuel pump, however they have no clue why it is still messed up. Starting to wonder if it will ever go away....

Lots of things are illegal but still happen. It could be switching tanks for another fuel and the residue, since a little ethanol seems to cause the chirps while a lot shuts it up.
It's not proven 100% but from the level of evidence, ethanol is the culprit.

Wasn't goin to say anything . . . . but I will. I thought my car didn't have the crickets but yesterday arvo when I pulled up in the garage at home I could hear the little suckers. I popped the bonnet & confirmed it, they come & go fairly quietly but it's obvious & I have video evidence to support it. Maybe shitty batch of fuel (I had just filled up) but as I have said before I only use VPower which here in oz afaik isn't supposed to be blended with ethanol, although after catching my supplier out last night for overcharging to the tune of 2c/L more than what is the std VPower pricing I wouldn't put it beyond them !

It's early days, the weather was fairly cool & I will keep an ear out & see what happens.

Lending credence to temperature playing a factor to their appearance, it was low 40s (F) this morning and even after the engine was up to temperature, no crickets. Yesterday when I got home, it was in the upper 50s and I heard my chirping.

I've noticed that as well. No chirps in the morning here, lower 50's. In the afternoon coming home from work, 70's and chirps are back. Temperature and ethanol content are the only two consistent objects affecting this.

It makes sense that ethanol and heat will cause the chirps by friction or aeration or both?
