My tuner wants me to test out some ecutek stability control thing so maybe I'll give that a whirl.
My experience is the grip level falls off after a lot of heat cycling. I've lost about a 1-1.5 seconds off my lap time while I'm still pushing as hard as I'm able. I suppose if you are starting to overdrive 'em trying to make up the time/feel that you lost it would feel like they let go quicker.

I'm almost never in favor of driving with any kind stability control on. IMHO, every off, spin, slide, etc. is a learning experience and traction control ultimately stunts your growth as a driver. You never learn how to correct if the computer is constantly correcting for you.

If this helps anyone, here is a snippet of video from MR Laguna Seca I shot last year. I may help those who mentioned they wanted to see the lines. These laps are fairly clean (save for a few off line passes)... and I like this vid cuz it features a Ferrari 458 Italia from the US Touring Car Championship (they shared a day w/ NCRC last year and would run shake down w/ our sessions!). Yes, I did pass him (he let me cuz he needed to warm up tires/car) and yes, the pass was short lived.

I'm driving an S2000 (pre-aero, pre-bbk, 255 hankook rs3s, stock engine).

Well at least now I know what to expect on Nov 3... lots of point bys for other cars. Hopefully there will be enough 86s out there so I won't have to point by everyone!

LOL I wouldn't worry too much about that. He was most probably in the Open/expert group where you have fast drivers and in most cases fast drivers in fast cars.

True, hopefully there will be a bunch of us noobs out there, and I can take my time and learn the line. I just hope there aren't three spins on the first lap like at THill and that people remember to warm up their tires!

Thanks @AyJay and @sw20kosh for the videos, definitely starting to see the line again. I'll most like still have either an instructor/bored driver/maybe even one you you guys to ride a long to yell at me on the track

Kinda wish I would have signed up for this LS day but I opted instead for 11/22 @ Sonoma (trackmasters-racing.com) and I'm trying to find a spot at the BlackTrax Test & Tune 11/17 @ Thunderhill.

Just be careful, laguna seca turn 3 can get you if you're not paying attention. On my track day, there were a total of i think 5-6 crashes. 2 Bmw's 1 GTR, 2 S2K's. It was crazy, i saw both of the beamers crash. One of them was right behind me. It was turn 5 and he over steered, over corrected and just flew into the tire wall on the right. It was insane watching it in my rear view mirror. The other BMW scraped i think his driver side on turn 4, i think he spun and went into the wall and scraped it.

Yep, as a noobie to this particular track, this is definitely not the place to "test the limits" of your car or your skills. I had 2 scary incidents on my first time there:

1. On my first lap completely misjudged the corkskrew and didn't turn enough (the turn is blind) which caused me to fly over the apex on the inside of the turn.

2. On lap 3 did a 360 into the dirt at turn 2. (Turn 2 is tighter than I initially thought)

After my first session, I toned it way down and the rest of the day was super fun and safe.

yea when i did laguna seca it was in my STi, and the only problem was understeer, and my boost leak problem sady lol. Laguna seca doesn't have that much run off either so keep that in mind. BUT i will say this, turn 6 is by far my favorite turn. Pedal to the floor, 80mph and not lifting is much more fun than the cork screw imo lol.
