I dont wave at all Subies. I'll wave at twins or hachis. Gotta respect your elders. I usually get either no response or an acknowledgement. I know i dont always see when people wave so being too focus does happen.

People are really captivated by our FR-S when we go to shows. Everyone asks questions about the way it drives and how much it costs...etc. etc.

BRZ owners are usually very nice to us at shows as well, idk maybe people in the Midwest are just nicer in general lol

I wouldn't get too worked up about it OP lol

The best waving group was the VW crowd back in the '50s. It has gradually diminished since then. The best wave I've received so far was from a Ferrari!!

I came from a 2013 Wrangler and can say that the jeepers waved a whole lot. I was at an intersection across from an FRS and I flashed my lights and they waved. Seems you may be in a bad area.

Yea I get a decent reaction from twins owners. But WRX, STi, and TC owners give me nothing. Just thought it was funny and it seems like for the most part u guys see the same thing. Maybe if we keep at it ever one else will eventually follow suit.
My friend owns a C5 and I noticed like every vette wave at each other which is odd cause I didn't think vette owners are the nicest bunch of people. Guess I was wrong.

Generally I have gotten or given a wave or a honk to fellow FR-S/BRZ owners.

I think the exclusion is more from other groups of car owners.

For BRZ owners, at least, we're kinda the black sheep of the Subaru owners crowd, mostly I think for being part Toyota and being non-AWD. I don't think I've ever gotten a wave or a thumbs up from a WRX or STI. Aside from the badge and the number of cylinders and the angle between the cylinder banks, their cars are extremely different from ours. The Subaru owner culture is heavily influenced by rally. Just wait til the first snow and every WRX owner will be posting pictures and bragging about how great Subarus are in the snow thanks to their rally heritage, meanwhile a decent fraction of BRZ owners are putting their cars in storage for the winter. The twins have a fundamentally different culture that doesn't really jive with the Subaru culture, so we're a bit of outcasts. Sure, most people aren't openly hostile, but on every general Subaru site I've been on, the discussion is firmly centered around the Impreza/Legacy and the various turbocharged variants of them, with maybe a couple Foresters hanging out, and if a BRZ owner chimes in, it's at best a polite dismissal.

I don't really have any connection to the Scion culture because my car isn't a Scion, so the only Scions that feel any connection to me are fellow twins. Maybe if I had a FR-S, I'd feel some camraderie with Scion owners, but having a BRZ, they're like the friend of a friend. I don't dislike them, but the only thing we have in common is that we're friends with the FR-S.

As for Toyota, is there a Toyota enthusiast culture? I've never really seen one.

I would say so, but it's not as prominent as it used to be.

Honestly, I get the most love from Celica owners.

I get friendly "fingers loose from the wheel waves" from WRX owners tout le temps.

As a former WRX owner, there is a large swathe of cars I respect and would gladly wave to their owners, and often get waved back.
... RX8's, S2000's, WRX/STi's, old school Miatas, and a few others. Primarily the import scene (excluding Civics, as they aren't sports cars no matter how fast they can go).

Muscle cars not so much, don't know why.

I'm so confused as to what flashing lights means that I wouldn't do it if I was paid to.

-Let's race
-You're a ****, antagonizing (e.g. going slow in the left lane)
-Something's wrong with your car (e.g. lights off, highs on)
-Cops
-Be careful (road hazard, speed trap)

And apparantly now "Hey we're bros"
