Blue tooth drop out

Anyone else having problems with the 2013 brz nav unit disconnecting and reconnecting. My unit was fine with the same phone (galaxy s3) for approximately 4 months. In the last two months the bt disconnects sparadically with no rhyme or reason. I've tried waiting during startup for the connection to avoid the speed control lockout. When it's bad it can average disconnect and reconnect every 2 minutes. The dealership says that I have to drop off the car for the whole day for diagnose. Really? I have video of the problem. Any thoughts. Other then aftermarket. Other plans for my list of upgrades. The unit should be functional no matter how flawed.

Have you tried it with a different phone? The issue might be there, not the receiver.

I have had nothing but problems with my car's blutooth.

Phones tested:
- Blackberry Torch
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Iphone 4, 5, 4s, 5s

Main Issues:
- Car refuses to connect to the phone
- Car disconnects the phone randomly
- Car will only connect certain features (music only, no phone)

Weird Issues:
When the car is cold, and I make a phone call, the recipient has a hard time hearing me because they hear road/vehicle noise. However, once the car is warmed up (and not so loud) they have no issue hearing me clearly.

I believe this is because the mic input is setup with a threshold - it turns off when it detects no noise, so the call can be clear, and then turns on when it detects noise, so the recipient can hear you. I believe this threshold is too low because it picks up the cold car's engine noise (bloody intake toob) but then doesnt once the car is warmed up.

Now, I consider myself tech saavy and I find nothing to blame aside from the car. It's really unfortunate because in NY driving while on the phone incurs a huge ticket.

Edit: where do you put the phone when driving? I usually put mine in the gap between the power outlet and the cup holders, with the screen facing upwards. Maybe a different phone placement/orientation will help with the signal connection?

This was common with the American nav units at launch, guess there was never a fix? Thought I heard something about a relocating antenna and a software upgrade, didn't happen to recently tint windows did you?

I have the same issue. I recently added some wiring to plug something into the reverse camera input. Otherwise it should be unbroken and unmodified.

The hypothesis is that the metal used in windows works like a faraday cage. I'm not sure I buy it given that you are transmitting and receiving from inside the vehicle.

I think that was just the GPS fix.

I'll note that my Iphone 4 had no issues, then got a Galaxy S3 and had nothing but trouble...then I got a new S3 (All work phones) and it works with no issues at all.

While I can say that the phone makes a difference, it makes a difference because the head unit is just weak in so many areas.

Bt dropout

I tried the android play store apps to avoid the deep sleep that the phone may be going into, to no avail. I've also tried other phones, (iPhone 5) same problems or worse. The problem also started a little after I tinted my windows with ceramic tint, to the other poster who said their may be some correlation. Help don't want to drop my car off for most of a day or more at the dealership for potentially no fix or worse damage to my car from careless shop workers.

well if there is people who say window tint can cause this, and you noticed this shortly after you tinted your windows...

Try removing the bluetooth connection on the head unit and resync the connection. Essentially sync as if a new device. Has helped for some people.

Right here! Mine *may* disconnect within the first few mins but it's good thereafter. I use a custom rom on my HTC1 but I have zero issues with the multiple BT receivers I have at home as well as the BT headphones I have.

Last weekend, I updated the firmware on my phone. I thought I solved the problem because there were no disconnects for two whole days so I bragged to a friend that the mystery was solved. It promptly disconnected again on my drive home that day.

I have a similar problem as well, it's either my Bluetooth won't connect, or it will connect but the audio will be chopped of every split second when the music is playing... Try turning on and off Bluetooth in the head unit sometimes will fix the issues itself..

Sent from my HTC One

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which worked perfectly with the bluetooth for me. I recently switched to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and am having problems getting it to stay connected. It will connect and disconnect repeatedly. Each time bringing up a message on my phone about syncing. It is really making phone calls difficult while driving.
