Dude, first and foremost be happy you weren't injured or worse.

We have laws to keep things in check and it will work itself out with the insurance people on your side.

I'd be really shaken if I was in an accident like you described, and it makes everything else trivial.

The main thing is that you are alive and not affected. By the way, do you have a video record of this crash?

you're in for a serious beating, it is unfortunate, but you have been caught in one our dreaded loopholes of the auto collision industry and pretty much did all the things you shouldn't do.

phonecalls are not going to solve anything, you're gonna have to show up to this place and speak to someone in person to discuss what is happening and what is going to happen and how yuo can, if at all, wiggle yourself out of it.

you also need a copy of whatever it is that you signed from the tow truck driver

make sure you establish that the body shop is not going to charge you for "keeping your car safe", ie, a "holding charge", esp since no work is currently being done.

they are gonna squeeze you for everythign they can and the only way you'll get anything back is through a small claims court. YOu can also call your visa up and tell them that they are processing unauthorized transcations, this will surely get their attention.

i doubt any good will come of this, so laywer up.

They are banking on the fact that all this will be paid for by your insurance company, so they don't see it as anything wrong.

ath the end of the day, if they'll really bend your arm, at least negotiate a standard of work to be performed, and if they don't fix your car right then they don't get paid. Involve your insurance company every step of the way.

@Sh4rp it would be good if you can put the word "review" in your title so when people google Lyons Auto Body they can see your post. Apparently they have 4 out of 5 stars on google :s

I'd FREAK if this happened to me, hopefully his isnt a case where the law ends up helping these scamming douchebags, but thats probably how they're still in business in the first place.

glad i came across this, because honestly, after an accident i'd probably do the same thing without even thinking.. until you read/hear something like this it doesnt even cross your mind.

OP keep us updated, goodluck.

Felt like reviving an old thread as I just watched this on CBC [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiZdInkrycM"]CBC News Marketplace: Tow-truck tricksters can hit as hard as an accident - YouTube[/ame]

This company is terrible and what makes it worse is that the owner John Lyons is on the municipal tow truck advisory committee.

RIP OP and Sahill (Owner from video)

Edit: here is the full video [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOboCgIhcfk"]Tow truck tricks: Don't get scammed after an accident (CBC Marketplace) - YouTube[/ame]

A BMW had the similar problem as you. In the end, they tried to "repo" the car because the insurance never paid for the extra damages the shop made to his car. The police know about that shop too and I remember they warned me not to take their tow truck and to their shop too.

Good luck with everything man.

Moral: have 2 phone numbers on you always..

1. A garage you trust. In Mississauga a guy I trust is Norack Motors

2. Ask the person from (1) to give you the # for a trustworthy tow truck driver.

Save these 2 numbers. I have met some great honest tow truck drivers.
