I didn't really like the 981 bodystyle when I first saw pictures of it, but it looks absolutely stunning in person. I still love the look of the 987s, but the 981 is just in a league of its own. It looks sleek, fast, and mean. I love it. The 981 Boxster is gorgeous too, which for me is saying something, since I never really cared for the looks of the prior generation boxsters. Yellow is probably my favorite color on a Porsche as well.

(The 991 GT3 also looks unbelievable in the pictures, though I haven't seen one in person yet)

Currently own a C250 in Canada

Saw a CLA 250 yesterday at the dealer when taking my wife's car in for repair. The car looks real good. That price you are quoting is base, you will be spending a few thousand more to get all the things to make it sportier and more convenient ( heated seats ).
The car will be extremely quiet on the inside.
The repair bills are more costly on the benz.
Wife has a 4matic and do not feel as connected to the road as I do in the FRS.
The FRS is quicker than the C250.
The insurance will be cheaper for the Benz by a couple of hundred bucks. The FRS definately is leading the comments from others deapartment about every second person to none.
As I was looking at the CLA I was thinking what a great winter beater this would make, as I park the FRS.
One final thought for you, I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE BENZ SINCE GETTING THE FRS!!!!!!! Good luck with your decision.

Not even comparable price-wise, let alone class.

Almost 7k difference on MSRP alone. You'll be paying 10K extra off the lot, easy.

If I was in the market for a sedan in that price range (not necessarily size) I think I would be looking at three other cars. A Honda Accord V6, Chevy Impala V6, or the Buick Regal GS.

Compared to the FR-S (if you can), when the driver seat is set up for my 6'5" frame, there is no room behind me (just like the FR-S). The driver and front passenger doors are really small and I sit well behind the post in between both font and back doors. I found the engine rather sluggish. I asked about the AMG 65 version and they said they would be getting some in and would be priced around 65k. (My only beef with the 65k price is that you can get a C-Class coupe that is way nicer for less.) This past weekend I ended up buying another FR-S. Not that I was deciding on either of the two as I have been wanting my own FR-S ever since my wife sold her's and bought a Lexus.
I actually went car shopping with my buddy this weekend (has an FRS as well). We were looking for a car for his GF. We actually looked at the CLA. We couldn't test drive cause the two they had were already sold but I will say, seeing it in person, I am not a fan. I can definitely say the interior is hands down better but its just big, and I don't like the side profile near as much as the FRS. And agreed with everyone, it's rare your going to get one for under 30K. That being said I won't be trading my car for anything for awhile. The car is just so part of me. It would be too hard to let her go.

I will say from looking at cars, since we were in the lot of Lexus, MB, and Audi, the FRS definitely stands out from those cars. And not in a good way. Again maybe its just cause I am growing older but my buddies FRS is pretty clean with some good mods on it and it just doesnt even compare to anything that was in the lot. It stands out as being a Highschool project rice car. The FRS just doenst fit in with those types of cars. But I'm definitely not arguing that it should. Everything in those lots are much more expensive. But it defintely opened my eyes up to the more luxury based cars.

That, and I sat in a new TT-S. God what a car. I wish it had more power. But again way out of my price range lol.

We also checked this car out as well. They do look good, but only in black. My buddy was tempted to trade the car for it. I just cant stand the way the back looks. Still a nice car tho.

In the end I will be hangin on to the FRS for awhile. Get the thing payed off and call it a day. Regardless of all the cars we looked at, my car makes me extremely happy, and I still can break necks goin down the street.

Really? I would have thought 260ish (if I remember right) hp from a turbo engine would feel plenty adequate in that car. It's not that big of a car, though it isn't super light.

Very true. I wish I would have been able to test drive it. I honestly thought they weighed more but after looking up stats they have lowered the weight quite a bit. 40-50K tho for 268 is a bit steep.

Im not really sure comparing these two cars to each other is really a worth while endeavor. The only reason I could see doing so is if you were still looking for a new car in a particular price range.

I own a MB S500 and an FRS. I drive them for very very different reasons....

For what its worth tho, even modding my FRS is cheaper than the upkeep on the MB S500..... Damn thing always needs something fixed.

I think the new CLA is really beautiful, and obviously im a fan of the FRS. I would compare what you want out of a car and then find what fits that decision over contemplating this comparison.

Never own a luxury car always lease. Repairs are incredibly expensive after the warranty. Example, BMW doesn't let you cut rotors. You have to replace them.

And yes and no on the insurance, as luxury cars are typically safer with better chasis, pre collision systems more safety features, this would make the insurance drop.

However in the event of an accident, damages add up quite a lot. It could make your car a total loss easy.

Compared to the FRS/BRZ... The frs and brz is also an easy total loss as well (which is what my insurance agent told me).

But compared to my previous car, a 2011 Nissan Altima. My frs is only 8 dollars more per 6 months.
