06+ Honda s2000. But it wasn't practical enough for me since I drive around my lil bro's. Next best thing is the twins, IMO. Perhaps in the future I'll be able to own an s2000 as well :p

2013 speed3, 20013 focus st after driving the frs maybe it doesn't have the straight line performance as the other two but it has way better styling and handling. It just feels more connected to the road

I test drove a Jaguar XKR the day before, with the expectation of buying it. But I didn't enjoy the ride at all, and my wife wasn't comfortable in the passenger seat (it doesn't really recline). The BRZ was more fun to drive and felt faster, even with almost 1/3 less horsepower (Its not faster).

The Focus ST would have been my other choice, but the main downside for me was it felt like compromising, and I don't really like hatches (just personal preference). Oh and I chose the BRZ over the FRS because the FRS had no heated seat option, and I live in Minnesota. Last edited by ktech; 10-17-2013 at 10:32 PM. Reason: Seats |

The other cars I looked at aside from the BRZ were:
Scion FR-S (I liked having the HID lights in the BRZ better) Hyundai Veloster Turbo (Took too long to come out and was FWD) Dodge Challenger (Too low MPG) Honestly the only reason I got the BRZ over a Challenger was MPG, but i'll be honest, while the BRZ is a fun car I don't think it's for me, I loved it when I first test drove it but after owning it for over a year i'm just finding it a bit too small and the torque dip and low torque in general make the car frustrating to drive at times, especially coming from a Dodge Magnum with 390ft-lbs of torque. I'll probably end up trading my BRZ in for a 2015 Challenger when they come out since they are moving to a new platform, improved suspension, new interior, more HP across the entire line and most importantly switching from the old 5 speed auto to the new 8 speed which will put the 3.6 pentastar up to 31MPG highway and the 5.7 Hemi should be around 29 which are in the ball park of what I wanted for MPG. I traded in my SRT8 Challenger when my old 4 Runner died (250k miles and was a 1995) and got my new 4 Runner and 1 week later I was back in the market for a sportscar.
The 4 Runner is my DD...so I wanted a fun toy... I strongly considered a 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata (they are fun) A used 2005 Lotus Elise (was sweet...but owning a $38k used British car with no warranty...scary proposition) I also considered a used S2000. Test drove a Scion FR-S (I did not like the interior...sorry @ the Scion owners...I am not saying its bad, it just was not for me..) I eventually test drove a Limited BRZ...and immediately decided to buy it. I have owned a Nismo 350Z, an STI, and the Challenger and a Boxster S and a few AW-11 MR2s. The BRZ is the most fun to drive of everything I have owned (its up there with the late 80's MR2s...and it has a warranty and parts are EASY to find) |

originally, i was only looking at used cars.. i came from a '01 eclipse, which i was mostly happy with, and wanted many of the same features, but didn't realise it 'till later.. my original requirements was that anything i got had to be stick, and rwd/awd..
i started by looking at a '05 350z, but was almost immediately turned off by the fact there was zero back seat(i used the back seat for just about everything but people).. then i test drove a '12 genesis 2.0t r-spec, and was horrifically disappointed, slow to rev, no BOV sound at all, and it felt exactly like the eclipse-- large, heavy and looked fast, but didn't feel it at all.. i briefly looked at a few subaru imprezza wrx sti's, but was mostly turned off by the boy-racer look and image those cars have... so riding past a toyota dealer, i figured what the hell, i'll give that new fr-s thingie a try.. drove it, and it's perfect-- it's got a backseat for junk, stick, rwd, and double din-ish radio(yes seriously, one of my main points in car shopping is how swappable the radio is, that was the sole reason for the old eclipse).. so now i just gotta get my order in, in the next few months(waiting until jan/feb so i can take delivery in mar/apr, and have fun with it right away instead of letting the snow torture my new wheels before i get to...)

I turned my back on a GVB (4 door STi)... it was a 2011 in BPB (Plasma Blue Pearl) too which was a unicorn paint, but as a trade off, I got the unicorn paint for my BRZ
