(Interesting that Moto thought that few would appreciate what they were seeing. I think he's right.)

My reaction?

Yes!

Clean, neat, and tidy. Easier said than done.

I thought to myself, "This guy's done this a few times before."

I only watched it once, but here's what I noted and what immediately impressed me:

He keeps the nose close to the cone(s) he's circling; his nose describes a nice, tight circle around the cones. No erratic oval loops described, but a nice, tight circle. And, of course, he does not bump the cones.

He almost never employs opposite lock. The driver's doing all this with beautiful throttle control and balance. (On the high-speed slide around the "track" perimeter, he employs opposite lock because a tidier slide would be hard for the spectators to see. So, there he slides it more dramatically for effect, which requires opposite lock (steering). Be assured, that guy is clearly in control.)

When he completes each drift, he ends it without that jerkiness one sees so often. The car is aimed perfectly straight towards where he wants to go next, and the slide smoothly blends into a line heading for the next set of cones. Dead on.

I was very impressed within seconds of the beginning of his demonstration. Hell, he had me with the trick of walking beside his car! (I was wondering if he's got a clamp on his steering wheel to avoid wandering, and whether he employed any electronic aid to set the exact pace. It was cool.)

There may be other points that I missed in the one viewing.

But, I did not miss his talent and skill, nor the difficulty of what he was doing.

Thanks for posting this, Ichi.

I respect your comparison.

I honestly think they are 2 completely different things. Like Comparing a apple to a piece of broccli

I respect both, and each has their own awesomeness.

Time for my insulin

I prefer to have them both, at the same time.

One of my favorite local restaurants has a "cake" that is four layers top to bottom:

Devil's Food Chocolate
Cheese Cake
Pecan Pie
Double Chocolate Chip Brownie

All covered in Chocolate icing.

I try not to go there any more....
