BRZ vs 86

Morning,

Just saw an article about the automatic BRZ and noticed that they are stating that the BRZ's exhaust produces an extra 7 Kw. Has anyone driven both and felt the difference? It also looks like Subaru SA are the only ones advertising the extra power.

That's because Subaru SA is the only one selling the BRZ with that specific exhaust system. It's been locally developed.

7kw....hmmm....dunno about that. Can they prove that with dyno resluts, probably not.

I've asked them and they said they could and would post a dyno graph as soon as possible. 7kw is less than 5% which I don't think is impossible considering the BRZ doesn't have a 2nd cat.

We're not talking 7kw at the wheels here.

Thanks Sav. Think I need to go test drive the BRZ and see if the extra Kw's are worth changing the exhaust.

Forget the 7kw, it's nothing. It's worth it for the sound, you'll see what I mean.

Wish that Subaru had priced this car a bit better locally. I really like the Subaru blue but simply cant justify another R40k over what seems to be insignificant differences. I guess this is one of the reasons for them trying to market the power gain, instead of juat pricing it right in the first place against the 86.

I';m sure if they could, they would. Remember, they're not importing nearly as many cars as Toyota.

Yes, I've heard that Toyota get some import incentives which Subaru doesn't. Also, the Subaru warranty and maintenance plan is much better than Toyota's IMO.

For me, being a loyal Subaru customer, the deal-breaker was two-fold: (1) BRZ wasn't available in SA yet and I couldn't wait, and (2) Subaru's crap resale values in SA. Never understood why because they have great s/h value elsewhere in the world...

It might be different in your part of the world but from what I have read the BRZ has 2 cats like the 86. My BRZ has 2 cats.

Yep, it's different here. The unmonitored cat isn't part of the system.
