Writing is a good way to vent and get something out of your system.
Was bugged but than thought things through.

Basically about the ACA how I don't really care for it, made a comment about who is the government to tell us how to live.
But than he made valid points,
Do they tell us to wear a seat belt,
Do they tell us if a woman can have a child or not,
Can they tell us if a 12 year old can walk into a bar.
Whether we like it or not, the government can control us.

That was basically it in a nut shell
People laughed but like I said I thought about it and no longer feel bugged by it

Maybe. Then again, it may convince you that you were right to be offended/angry/disturbed… whatever. It may make you more resolute than ever. Nothing wrong with that.

Not everything can be broken down into simple bits of Right vs. Wrong, White vs. Black. There are lots of shades of gray out there in Life, you know?

In fact, I wonder if perhaps your instructor at college was trying to help you see this very thing? Help you see that sometimes valid arguments can be made for both sides of an issue?

I understand that you're conflict avoidant, Ashley. You're uncomfortable with your own aggression, I'd guess, among other issues. It's okay to feel strongly. You're not always wrong, either. Sometimes one needs to just walk away, too. Not because you're wrong, but because you've wisely decided that you're not charging up this particular hill, you know? You're not prepared to die on this hill. This is how we all must deal with these things in life.

Am I prepared to die on this hill?

Am I making sense?

You will encounter a lot of situations in college life where you're going to need to fight the urge to "lock and load," and charge up this hill, damnit!

You may remember this incident for years, and continue to be bugged by it. Quite possibly because it may be worth remembering, because there may be worthwhile lessons in the experience. I'd need to know more details, but I don't wish to violate the "No politics" policy in this forum.

Lots of things bug us, Ashley. If one wishes to live a life free from agitation, I think one needs to be locked away in a room with no contact with the outside world.

Sounds fair to me. Without knowing more, I suspect I'm on your side, here.

Why do you think they laughed? (Would I be correct in thinking that this is what triggered your resentment? Bearing in mind that the students' laughter is independent of the instructor's reaction. Two different issues there, right?)


By the way, would I be close to the truth if I guessed that you don't connect well with most of your fellow students? You don't think like them, nor they like you. Right?

But, did he have a conclusion?

Just because the government has successfully "interfered" in our lives in some particular respects, and we even accept these things … does not give the government free license to endlessly impose upon us whatever constraints or demands it wishes. Just because "we the people" allowed them an "inch" doesn't mean they're entitled to take a "mile."

What is your job, Ashley, what is your PRINCIPLE GOAL, in attending college?
