Mine was replaced month ago, and after a week noise came and went. Seems like something is wearing out and once it lets go, noise just happens. Maybe flow actuator of some sort i'm thinking, since it silences when revs are increased.

This is the most scientific we have. There are hypothesis about ethanol content causing some coating to wear away or not lubricating properly but there are people running E85 with no chirps and others who have run ethanol free fuels with no results.

The noise is never permanent in my experience, mine's been 90% quiet (as in unnoticeable unless you pop the hood and stick your head in) for the last 5,000+ miles. I'm almost at 15,000 miles, on the original pump, all California 91 octane E10, the cheapest/most convenient station I come across, everything some people say guarantees the chirp.

I tend to think it's the sound of cavitation.

I had a rear shock on my MTB that would make some strange noises if the nitrogen charge got low.

I agree. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that they engineers said it was 'aeration' of the fuel. To me, this means cavitation. Some of the TDI fuel pumps have been known to eat themselves after long time in service with cavitation. I'm pretty sure everything between the fuel pump and the engine is destroyed when the pump internals come apart.

You only put a cap full or two in at every fill up. I doubt there will be any long term issues with that small of volume,

Be sure and get a part number for the fuel pump and post it, if they replace it, so the rest of us can look into it.

As JSMIL pointed out in the Engine idle chirping (cricket) noise poll thread, Subaru has a new HPFP part number 16625JB010 (Stock - 16625JB000). So its likely Scion will have one too, please help us confirm this by posting your replacement HPFP part #s.

I'm getting the pump done tomorrow. I'll report back in 500 miles.

Get the pat number of the fuel pump and post it so we can see if it is a new one or the same green dot that does not work.

I'm told it is still the same part number. That's why you can't tell what you're getting.
I haven't been following this for very long. Is a green dot supposed to differentiate a new design from the original design? So it's possible that this will only be a short term fix or there might be three different pumps? Be bizarre to lemon law the car over crickets, but if they replace the pump every 500 miles...

The green dot is the first replacement pump they tried. It was the same part number as the original but had a green dot on the box to differentiate between the two. Supposedly there is a new 2nd replacement, however no one seems to have the part number for Toyota yet. The Subaru part number has been posted for it though. Hope this clears things up as we know them now. That is why I am trying to get someone to post the new part number for Toyota.

What is the original Toyota part number so I can tell if they are different when I get the paperwork?

Edit: The part # is su003-00328. They also replaced a couple of pipes. I don't know if that means anything or not.
There is no mention on the papers of a flash, but the car is quicker than it was before, and louder under acceleration. I could be imagining the change in power but I have definitely never heard the car rumble under acceleration before. It makes no sense, but there it is.
