Great new technology

Ok, so maybe this isn't the newest thing to hit the market but I still love it. At lunch yesterday me and a buddy from work stopped by at the local Best Buy and were just looking around. As we left I noticed the wristband technologies. I had never heard of the Pebble before, but now I love it. After tax it was a little over $160 which is reasonable for a decent watch.

If anyone else has got some pretty cool pieces of tech, feel free to share!

seems like a device that does all the smartphone stuff while keeping the smartphone in your pocket. while i see this being handy, the novelty will probably wear off.

op maybe you could post a small vid of some of the functions, interesting to see how the gps looks.

i think it's an interesting idea, a lot of times all i really need from my phone is check the time and answer calls. (like derp, for real!)

if i can keep my phone in my pocket and use the watch as a blue-tooth gateway for call answering.. .while functioning as a watch and a fashion item, why not?

also i assume if it acts as an app-gateway for GPS coordination or any type of timing/distance thing, then it too will save the time for a casual runner or cyclist of taking out the phone to check things, just glance at the watch and be on your way

There's a couple apps out that are specifically for tracking runs and bike rides. It displays information like average speed, distance traveled, etc. Unfortunately there is more support for the android side than the iPhone side, but luckily I will be switching camps here soon enough and getting an android phone.

What I would be interested to see is an app specifically for tracking runs for autox days and track days. Just a glance down while you're driving to check your split times for that lap/run. I wonder how hard it would be to develop

OP reads like a corporate shill.

In any case, let me know when I can have all the locks in my life work off of bluetooth, then maybe i'll buy one. Actually no I won't, I'll just use my phone.

I definitely don't have any affiliation with Pebble, I didn't even know that the thing existed until yesterday I just figured that there are some other techies out on these forums that might not know about it.

Also, I wouldn't exactly trust bluetooth to secure your house. Bluetooth isn't exactly the most secure thing ever. But you could use a tiny secured RFID chip that is implanted in your hand to unlock all the doors/locks in your house and life

Well yeah, otherwise we'd be using it already. People were trying RFID implants years ago, it's one of those things that requires commitment at this point.

In any case, go back and read your post again, it sounds like an ad.

Yeah...I guess it does sound kinda scripted. I was trying to tell about my experience with a very short and sweet description

I can't think of any situation I'd be in where I would need or want such an ugly device on my wrist.

I said this is going to be the next fad, trend, or whatever you want to call it.

I think the idea is good, but wait until the better versions come out and see what they have in store for smart watches.

I keep one of these in my server room. It's been dubbed "THE IT HAMMER." I also have a Coleman lantern in my office. People stare at it wondering why I would ever need it, but it was in the server room when we moved buildings so I brought it with me. Makes a good conversation piece.
