Looking at them from a budget system perspective, Precision Power makes what looks like the perfect 3 way system for this car and can be had for about $300. I have no personal knowledge of the brand though. I found a review on these speakers and it was favorable, but does anyone here know anything about the company? From what I have seen so far they used to be pretty hot stuff but have slid a bit down the desirability ladder. Would they be considered a good budget brand now?

EDIT: Took the advice from earlier in the thread and went to DIYAudio and they seem to like these speakers. Dilemma resolved.

EDIT2: Was talking with an installer I know who has no chance of selling me product (so no stake) and he was aghast at the idea of using PP speakers and explained how they are selling on their rep these days so it looks like I'm back to square 1.

Excellent speakers. They have some nice budget stuff, up to nice no compromise sets.

I'm running Legatia L6 in doors, Legatia L3v2 in dash, L1v2 in dash, L3 in rear. (I have an i8SW that's waiting for an Integrity Concepts box). The bass response with no sub is crazy (seriously, yes I need a sub, but a sub does not cover the upper mid bass range 90-150Hz well, or shouldn't anyway)

Hybrid Audio are some of the finest speakers in the world, with huge victories in SQ in all the major competitions.

There are many good speakers, and quite a few good choices in this thread. Personally, I'll stick with the stunningly clean Hybrid Audio setup I have

Sound treated the hell out of the doors and installed a set of Hertz HSK163 driven by an old school Rockford Fosgate Punch 45 amp.
Oddly enough, the final touch that made the whole thing really work was to change the car setting to a tc.
The whole thing just woke up.
This setup goes so deep and hard that I don't think I'm going to bother with a sub.
I have no idea what he was playing (nothing I would normally listen to) but it had a lot of bass and I could feel the vibrations in the back of my seat. That's a lot of air being moved.

Edit: After driving it for a day, I can't decide which setting to go with. Using tC the music is richer, more alive, but there really isn't any kind of soundstage: it just is everywhere. Using FR-S, it isn't as full but the soundstage is much better. Looks like I'm going to need a processor.

It's funny you mention the Punch 45's. I used to run those a loooong time ago and loved them. I actually have been thinking about getting several for an old school install.

some day, i would love to hear a setup from hybrid audio.. i've heard nothing but good things about their speakers, but the price tag is so hard to swallow.. from the reviews, it seems my peerless hds mids have similar response, but for only $47 each...

Mine is one of the "25 to Life" editions they put out just a few years ago for their anniversary. I also have a Punch 75 I was going to use for a sub, but I don't need to do that anymore. It's a bit scuffed, so I can't imagine anyone would want it who cares about things being pretty so I don't know what I'll do with it. Having seen the power handling capability of these speakers, I'm tempted to swap out the amps.

Id say unless you want to go active and all that jazzzz to pass on the HSK163's. Granted they sound excellent, they are wayyyyy better active with a good amount of power. Also their passives are pretty damn big that come with them.

I would say just get a set of JBL MS-62C's. They are a great set of components that work well with a varied amount of power.

Aside from super custom setups.... thats really the only 2 choices I think people need for comps on this car lol.

Active with ~75ws/6ch= HSK163
Passive with 75-150ws/2ch = JBL MS-62C

Now... for either... pick up a roll of your fav deadner and do your doors and door panels. Make some quality MDF adapters or plastic whatever your crazy brain prefers, and do the install right. Shit will sound legit and you will be happy at either price range.
How would you compare the JBL MS-62C's to Alpine Type R Components? Better or worse than, considering the Alpines cost way more.
