Noise during shifting caused by Acceleration Pedal

So today I dropped my FR-S (manufactured April 2012) for a noise like a clunk when shifting. It has gotten worse overtime. It used to be once in a great while and now its almost every shift. Took it in and explained the noise. Service manager said they would look at it. 3 hours later I call and ask about my car. Ohh we don't hear anything. I was thinking WTF even my fing G/F could hear the noise plain as day. So I go down there. The tech goes with me and I drive so I can reproduce it. Very first shift, bam makes the noise. The tech says, I can't hear anything. I do it another 5-6 times. Still nothing. WTF anyone with haft a brain could hear it. So I tell him to drive. He gets in and starts to drive. Sir enough he Finally hears it....

So long story, they have to keep my car over night. Someone(regional tech) will be called out to look at it. I hope they get things fixed. Otherwise the car drives like a dream. I will keep everyone posted.

Do they have an idea of what might be causing the clunking sound .. ??

Does it sound like its coming from the transmission area or the rear end of the car .. ??

Back in the old days, I would suspect a warn/lose universal joint in the driveline....

No and the stupid tech came to the dealership and said they could not hear anything. Chances this won't happen when the car is cold. It was very cold in Socal yesterday and raining. So I am going to call the 1800 complain and arrange for a time so they can come back to the dealership on a Saturday when I can ride with them to point the noise out. They even complained about my aftermarket catback and intake being to noisy and recommended i return the car back to factory standards.

hmmmm.......so, does the "clunking" sound like its coming from the transmission/clutch area or the rear end .. ??

I don't believe your exhaust or intake mods have anything to do with it ..... unless they are not bolted up tight ....

Thats got to be aggrivating ..... but, keep us posted.

To me it sounds like its coming from the rear. But its hard to tell. My exhaust and intake are fine. They think its loud so it impeds them from hearing it.

Make a video of it, if the sound is present it'll probably show up if you got a good mic on your camera / phone

hmmm.....coming from the rear (maybe center) ... ??

As you can see, the drive shaft has 3 universal joints (which one may be the bad actor); then we have the final drive (differential) that could cause a clunking sound; then we have the shafts that go to the wheels, which may be lose.

Hell, it could be a lot of things .... ..... none of which a trained tech shouldn't be able to figure out.

Question: Have you slammed your car sideways against a curb .. ??

Well, I hope they get it sorted out.

Let us know what you find out.
