Just a quick rant

Yesterday I was at the intersection of 280 and 101 and ran over a HUGE plastic bag.. tried to avoid it but wasn't successful.. when I didn't see the plastic bag come out from the rear, I knew this is gonna be bad...

Soon, I started smelling burning plastic and knew exactly what was going on.. basically the bag was melted onto the exhaust. to make matters worse, I started hearing STRANGE vibration noises, so I was pretty sure part of the bag got stuck to the drive shaft.

I drove like this for 30 miles give or take, that's my one way commute distance. Last night, I was gonna jack up the car and put it on jack stands to attempt removing the remains of the bag, but my car is too damn low and the jack was hitting my TRD kit so I gave up.
So this morning I woke up early and waited for America's Tire to open, hoping to pay a little money and use their lift. Sadly their lifts are only for good tire work; you cant see underneath the car. So I took it to one of those quick oil change place with a hole on the floor. (The place is called 10 minute speed oil change center, gotta give them credit for helping me out). Rick was kind enough to let me use the facility and help me remove most of the bag at no cost. There is a small part that is stuck near the differential and he cant remove. The weird noises are now gone, but it will take weeks for he plastic to melt off. Also, I am concerned about the small piece that he wasn't able to remove. I will wait for my next dealership service so they can take a look.

Thanks for listening.

Brian

OMG, I had a bag stuck to my exhaust on my tC and it took months for it to finally stop smelling. Sorry for your bad luck, especially shitty situation because we have a drive shaft...

haha.. I had a big plastic bag stuck in my "mouth" this morning while on 92. It was flapping around, so I pulled off the road and dislodged it. Luckily it didn't get under the car.

yes, lucky you! I would had gladly took a small rock chip (still sucks) over a melting plastic bag that could also cause potential differential damage haha

OUCH! sorry to hear.

we had a customer once that came in once, that had a plastic bag hit her exhaust. She waited little too long that the plastic couldn't be removed off the exhaust anymore. We tried everything to remove it. Even had to use a chisel to try to remove it off the piping.

Thanks. Fortunately my TRD axleback is fine, the melted bag is on the stock piping, so either have it burn off naturally or when I get my midpipe replacement should be fine.

Would you guys be nice enough to take a look at the small remains of the bag that's stuck near the driveshaft for me when I come mount my wheels in a few weeks?

Thanks,

Brian

I doubt plastic would do any serious damage, especially considering most cars are designed to not care about more substantial road debris like rocks and such.

If really bothered me I'd whip this bad boy out:

Instructions: Apply on low setting for a maximum of 5 seconds, repeat as required. Increase duration as required.

Yup Yup, good thing the bag melted on my stock exhaust pipe, not my shiny muffler so that was a relieve. Only part I am concerned about is the bag being tangled up at the drive shaft/diff, possibly causing damage to the seal. I haven't seen any diff oil on my garage floor yet so that's good.

Corney I know, but if that's the worst that happens you've got it made.

I have a racing jack... drop by my place. I can help. I had something like this happen on my camry. Had to scrape it off with a putty knife. I have one too. Let me know.

My problem was a home depot bucket. Melted on my mid pipe
