The good news is that Toyota is usually pretty good about fixing their problems. Even though Subaru builds these cars, Toyota has their badge (including scion too) on them. They could exhert a bit of pressure to fix this, and likely have. The STI was purely subaru's problem- this might explain events that hopefully are now unfolding on our cars.

Adding mine to the list.

1280 miles as of today. Had nothing but Shell 93 octane (three tanks worth) and no noise until today. At the 1/4 mark of this tank and it was like someone flipped a fuking switch and the noise started. Good thing it was not raining and was decent as I had the windows down and heard it start. Nice to be driving a brand new car that sounds like a pos.

Don't get it, this car has sat more than it has been on pavement. With the government shut down I had a week off so I took my ass to Florida to fish and drink. Calling the closest dealer to me in the morn and getting this documented and a time for them to look at it. Want this on record from the get go. Don't care if it's Subaru or Toyota or whoever plays the blame game I want the shit fixed. I hope they don't even try to play the "you put bad gas in it" game. Im kinda ocd when it comes to all the toys I own. I keep receipts for everything including every drop of gas that has gone in the BRZ. Working for the government taught me one thing - cover your ass, always.

Oh yeah and they need to fix my squeaky ass windows that got wet for the first time day before yesterday in the rain. Rolling them up leaving the taco bell drive thru they sounded like shit too. Guy at the window even asked wtf was wrong with the car and wasn't it new. Awesome, got a nice new car that sounds like a basket case.

"I have a buddy with a Ford Diesle truck and his makes the same sound. It's just the pressure with the fuel pump."
Can anyone else confirm this? Anyone else been told this by a Subaru dealer? For one its NOT normal and the fact they issued a TSB on it shows that. Secondly the diesel truck reference/comparison makes that guy sound like a real fuking idiot. In the end I'm not going to drive a brand new car around that sounds like a pos 105,000 mile mercury sable with a part that if it failed and failed big time could turn my car, me or both into a pile of burnt metal on the side of I85.

Just wondering if this what I can expect from SOA as far as backing their product? If that is the case I only owe 10k on this car and kbb shows a trade value of 25,600 not counting the full clear bra system and tinted windows I had put on. If SOA is telling people piss off maybe I should look into trading in now and beating all the others frs/brz owners to the used car line who might be looking to get out of their cars in the future.

This is my first Subaru product. If Subaru or Toyota will not fix this acknowledged problem then what should I expect down the line if something else on the car shits the bed? They just say hey its normal go fuk yourself?

Dropped my car off at Toyota for Chirping Issue

I dropped my car off on 10/4 at the Toyota dealership in Richardson, TX to have the Chirping issue resolved.

I told the service rep that the car had the issue and that the current TSB Toyota has out does not cover my VIN range.

They had it all weekend and were finally able to get the car to chirp. When make sure it is warm and chirping, and find the service rep and point it out. Also take video on your phone to show them when you get there.

Result:

They called Toyota/Scion and apparently they have a new TSB coming out to address the issue, that there is no timeframe as of now when that is going to happen.

He said they recommended trying different blends of gas etc.. etc.. I told him I was well aware that non-ethanol based gas helped, that there was only 93+ octane in the vehicle since I bought it.

If you have a lot of miles on your FR-S then you might want to make sure they have seen your car and noted that you have the issue so it will be covered when the new TSB comes out.

Here is an image of the service invoice:

I would think that any of the fuel pumps that service departments are getting now will still have the issue... I assume that there is more than just the fuel pump that is part of the root cause and that they will need to replace some other parts as well...

Good luck. My current 'green dot' pump's chirps are so far quieter and more intermittent than previous three pump, so I'm content let someone else do the work.

Everyone else's must be a lot louder than mine because at the noise level that mine is at idle which is the only time I can hear it, it sounds just like a quiet squeaking belt. IMHO opinion, no one is going to notice it but me and the only reason I noticed it was because of posts on here. Really, if everyone's sound like mine, I don't get why everyone is so bent out of shape.

My "green dot" pump is much louder than the original, factory installed pump. As long as this newest pump doesn't make even more noise than the green dot pump, I'll keep some semblance of hope.

Won't know until I get the car back. They're being very hush-hush about the information they're giving out...Besides, it won't really matter until after I've run the car for at least 1000 miles. That's how long it took for each of my new pumps to develop the crickets.

These damn "Crickets!" They are coming back now regardless of the fact that I got a new pump and have been using "Lucas Oil" to help lubricate this lousy ethanol gas. I'm suspecting that the winter blend here in Chicago has made it's appearance since I also noticed the fuel prices go down.

What the hell Toyota/Subaru?!! Give us a "REAL" replacement pump already that doesn't chirp like a cricket anymore!!!
