Sucks.

I work indirectly for the Navy. Luckily, our company is pretty huge and spans various economies, so we aren't too badly affected. Everyone here is still coming in to work.

I have very few bills, no real debt, and no family to support so it's just really, really, fucking obnoxious rather than life-threatening. I can't even imagine what this is like for someone living paycheck to paycheck, trying to support a family, mortgage, car note, etc.

with all the discussion around the shutdown and furloughed employees I wanted to share an email I got from Antwerpen Toyota today located in Clarksville, MD (Howard County) pretty much their giving out free oil changes to federal employees. i know its not much but hey a free oil change is a free oil change!

"-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

ANTWERPEN OFFERING FREE OIL CHANGES, TIRE ROTATION, AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTION TO ALL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES ON FURLOUGH

10/2/2013 - In an effort to assist federal employees on furlough, Antwerpen is offering free oil change, free tire rotation and free multi-point inspection at any Antwerpen Dealership.

Jack Antwerpen understands the importance of consumer’s jobs and how tough it can be on them and their families.

“I would like to offer free oil changes, tire rotation, and multi-point inspection to all customers going through this difficult time in our community. Even if you didn’t buy the car from me---please accept my invitation to come in for these services, free of charge.” – Jack Antwerpen

I know what you mean. My wife is a fed. We're on 1 salary at the moment so it hurts.

We have 2 car notes and a mortgage. So finances have gotten skinny - but it could be way worse. Thankfully banks are allowing leverage during the govt shutdown.

Day 9: The Shutdown drags on. I have fitted my vehicle with armor to prevent ambush attacks when I am out hunting for food. I hear through campfire stories that fuel raids have become more common. I must do what is necessary to protect myself and my possessions.

I'll be buying dedicated winter wheels and tires in the coming weeks. I'll probably put them on around Thanksgiving. For now still on the stock Mich's.

I agree. the winter here is short and mild and not worth switching wheels and/or tires. But then again, I always drive my truck in the winter so I don't bend my wheels from hitting hidden potholes underneath the snow. Also sand and salt will eat up the chassis

For the 3-4 days that we do get snow (in March/April...), everything shuts down anyways.

If my BRZ were my only car, I'd put snow wheels and tires on it ( I drive to upper PA a fair amount). But I have my truck, so I pretty much park the BRZ during the cold months.

Good question. Personally, I'll switch back to stock AS tires/wheels at some point.

I haven't decided what I'm going to use at the track (Summit Point) though. Nov 2-3. Avg. high is 60F and avg. low is 40F. It's in-between weather. I'll probably stick with summer tires.
