Kind of curious why this valve is based on 80's technology, when even in the 90's people were already developing double piston solutions which don't suffer this?

This is what I was expecting:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i979eGJ0w74"]Supercharged 350Z Blowoff Sound - YouTube[/ame] I want to know what needs to be done to eliminate the ear piercing whistle. It sounds like I have a terrible Ebay fake turbo whistle attached to my car. I want the smooth "woosh" noise that was in the first video posted by Vortech about this valve. |

New Vortech Maxflow Blow-Off Valve Upgrade for FT86 Supercharging Systems
Actually I just answered my own question because I remembered I had a message from Rick about what happens if the valve is loosens or tightened.
So according to Rick they did is just right. If you are to tighten the valve then what you are doing is making the valve open at higher vacuum level which could run the issue of compressor surge Wyses a big no-no. And this would be happening because the valve is not opening fast enough. On the other side if you loosen it it will need a lot less vacuum to open up. The issue with this is that it could open too fast. With that being said I'm not sure how much of a minor adjustment or major adjustment would be needed. Hope this info helps |

The instructions that come with the kit say its for both a bypass and blow-off valve from their MaxFlow Race series. The instructions say adjustment on the **BYPASS** sets when the valve opens and closes. for the **BLOWOFF** I think it reads, "don't touch it" Maybe my English is bad. Looks like you got the instructions for our old valve (which came in a bypass valve & blowoff valve configuration). Discard those.
Right now, the valves you guys have are set to open at around 6" Hg (you can verify with a vacuum pump). At this point, yes you can play with adjustment screw & turn it down to open at a higher Hg. Keep in mind, the black plastic bypass valve that comes stock with the kit is set exactly the same as this new valve, you just can't hear it because the opening is much smaller. We have a different spring that should do the trick if you don't have enough adjustment in your current vavle. |

Am I reading this correct that I can loosen the screw to have the valve open a little bit more (hopefully softening the whistle a bit). how much of a turn is considered a "little bit".

I thought it was the opposite and you tighten it down some. I've been asking rick questions about how to tighten the valve. I gave it three good turns and used a vacuum reader and at 6 it's opening but not as much so I'm thinking this should do it. Of course I don't have my car so I can't say if it works because it's in the body shop. I thought loosening would cause it too blow off earlier. Tighter of course too would make it blow off later. So idk if I'm doing the right thing. Main goal is to eliminate the whistle. I don't mind the release while cursing like the by pass. Just wanna get rid of the whistle.

It's cool enough down here to roll around with the windows down: it is now bald eagle swooping in to gouge out the eyes of its prey. It's majestic to look at going about, but do not dare cross it........

Going about
One more montage of the new Vortech BOV at the default setting. I'm pretty sure i'm going to get her in the air and try to adjust it this weekend. Overall it doesn't bother me that it whistles. It mostly bothers me that it whistles all the time around 2.5-3k RPM. Has putzing about, spirited driving, as well as some tach sweeps in there. as for me, at work i tightened it 1 full 360 degree turn and another half. Put the vacuum reader on it and at around 6 it still opens and at 10 it looks fully open. while no vacuum the valve is completely closed sooo looks like I may be good, but my car may need more vacuum in order for it to blow off so it may not blow off as much since I tightened it. I get my car back thursday. well HOPEFULLY. soon after I will do the install with the setting on the valve I have now. |
