I just talked with the shop foreman at a local dealership (an FR-S driver of 5 months). Here is his explanation of why the pump replacement doesn't always work.
They redesigned the pump but there are still a lot of the original design in the pipeline. They have to use them up before the new ones start getting put into cars. So depending on how many swaps the dealerships in your region have done, you may or may not get the upgraded version. He seemed confident that if I were to have the tsb done I would get a new design pump. He is going to order one and when he knows its delivery date, we'll schedule the service.

Which dealer in NC? Maybe I need to make a drive to a different dealer.

The dealer I purchased the car from told me that the sound is normal. I replied well why the fuk didn't it do this at delivery, better yet why does this sound come and go on different cars using different fuels all over the country? Or how about those that have had no problems vs those with intermittent issues vs crickets all the time? His reply was that I will have to live with it. The fuk I do. If this is how Subaru does business I will be trading the car in and getting my money back for the extended 70k warranty I bought and never buy another Subaru product again.

I have an FR-S so I don't know what good my dealership would do you. The guy I spoke to said it isn't hurting anything, so he personally hasn't bothered. I think it makes my new car sound like a piece of crap so I want it fixed.

Sry didn't notice you had a scion. I feel you on sounding like crap. Nothing like having a brand new car with windows that sound like fingernails on a chalkboard and an engine that sounds like its two decades old.

Dont know exactly why but my chirps disappeared on their own.

They showed up around 500 miles on the odo. (Currently just over 5000)

Disappeared 3 tanks of gas ago.

Only thing I can think of is my last 3 tanks of gas have been Chevron with Techron. Before that I just filled up wherever (mainly at my local Kroger).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but don't be surprised when it comes back. The chirps come and go on mine with 15k on the odometer and only use Chevron or Shell as there are nothing better in my neck of the woods.

Best thing you can do. Go ahead and sell it. No point in paying for a car with issues that are unacceptable to you.

Had them all day yesterday, and was louder than normal, stopped at the mall, and when I left, no crickets at all, lol. definitely an intermittent issue, but I learn to live with them for now.

Only permanent fix I know of is grenade the motor - wont hear any more crickets. problem solved.

Already looking at options. My first payment on the car drafted out today so the payoff is at $9500 and change. It's not that I am ready to dump the car its the fact that between the dealer I spoke with and SOA BOTH give me the impression that they could give a shit less. Even though I made it clear to both parties I am only asking for an attempt at a fix. Show that they are willing to try to fix the issue by trying a new pump. Its not like I'm pissing on their doorstep trying to get something for nothing. I am asking for Subaru to show they stand behind their product. If they don't I will trade the car and just forget about it.

Btw my conversation at noon today with SOA went about the same as the dealer I spoke with this morning, we know there is a problem but can't tell you if we are willing to fix it. I asked the rep point blank - will they replace the pump now and at least TRY to fix the issue? Answer - maybe. Lol maybe? No its a yes or no answer, not maybe. Asked the rep how long I am supposed to wait while a fix is "being worked on" and also inquired if a $500 fuel pump was worth losing a new to the brand customer? Answer - subaru is working on a fix. Asked - ok thats nice but what is SOA willing to do in the mean time? Answer - take the car to the dealer I spoke with who told me over the phone "just live with it" to have them hear the HPFP and hear the windows but we can't tell you if the dealer will do anything.

Which btw the dealer told me that the windows were my fault OVER THE PHONE due to having tinted windows!! The tint according to the dealer is putting pressure on the window and making it squeak! Amazing think is there was dead silence when I asked mr super mechanic why it only happens when the windows are wet!?? Lol I can't wait to meet this person, he can diagnose cars from 40 miles away while on the phone! Im sure he cleans up on all the sports betting, lottery, etc with those clairvoyant skills.

This is why I am concerned.
