Crickets don't bother me nearly as much as that death squeal when rolling windows up/down when cold and wet...

How do you determine if fuel is ethanol free?

Obviously they're not finding a fix for this, they're still releasing 2014's with the same issue. So if the rumours can be believed that they're gunna release a new engine next year, I doubt that there will ever be a real fix... Sooo not only is your 013/014 86 underpowered compared to the 2015, but it'll also have the infamous chirp, I see our resale value plummeting.
Toyota just paid out a $1.6 Billion to current Toyota owners for their loss of value stemming from the "unintended acceleration" issues, that likely were all driver error.

Like it or not, everyone's FT86 has incurred a loss of value due to the chirping. Only a matter of time before some law firm takes on this class action.

As for the people who say they've heard the tick-tick-tick sound on other DI cars, that's normal you morons. What's not normal is the loud chirping our HPFP emits. No other DI system does that.

Here in WA, the ethanol-free 90 octane is around $4.70. I had run my car for 3000 miles on Shell 92 octane exclusively, and I always had chirping. I'm pretty confident that it was the ethanol causing it. This has been my first cricket free week. It's made me feel a lot better about my car, and all I hear now are my direct injector ticks. :-)

TSB issued for the chirping states that counter measures are in production in the TSB thread.

My dealer is ordering me the part as well as possibly shimming my cam sensor for my rough idle.

I just emailed my service adviser of the past 14 years asking if TSB S-SB-0023-12 is still considered a fix for the problem or not. If and when I get a response I'll post here what he has to say.

The ethanol free gas is definitely a 'fix' for the chirping. Stops almost immediately.

This website should show you if you have any ethanol free gas stations in your area.

Someone on facebook recommended this:

"2oz low ash 2 cycle oil fixes it. Add it and then fill the tank."

However, I don't know what this is, or what he's recommending. But I've heard it's an effective fix?
