OK, I have just taken the 86 for a spin to clarify my myself (I haven't driven it in over a week) & it's pretty cold out tonight and it's just clatter atm, no cricket or chirp although I'm fairly certain I've heard it especially when it gets warmer, the other day when it was 25deg Celcius for example. I still reckon that clatter is pretty ordinary though but would admit the chirp be even more annoying especially if you in stop start traffic all the time.

I will confirm for sure 2moro I hope as I will be driving the 86 2moro, weather forecast for about 22deg, we'll see.

A little common sense:

1. Squeaking means wear
2. As pumps wear their output pressure drops
3. Less fuel pressure means lean combustion
4. Too lean gives detonation/knock
5. Too much knock detonation under load leads to big problems

Is this not something Toyota has looked at? Has Toyota taken a pressure reading from anyone's squeaking HPFP that was sent back to their labs?

Why do you assume they haven't done what you're proposing? I think it's absurd to postulate that Toyobaru haven't put 100k+ miles on an 86 drivetrain already. It's been out for over a year, even if it only gets driven on weekdays that's less than 400 miles a day to hit that.

Edit: 400 not 40, thanks Decay.

I think you may mean 400 miles per day?

40 miles * (365 days/ 1 year * (5 weekdays / 7 total days) = 10428.57 miles/year

If thats a fix then i will spend ~160$ on it no questions asked

I tried a 'star tron ' product when I filled up on Wednesday and I didnt hear crickets tonight. I will have to monitor the varying conditions during the weekend to see if it's just a coincidence.

2 stroke oil. High quality, low or zero ash.
Try 1:1000 and add before you fill the tank. Max 1:500

This thread has lots on it and the results.

excuse my ignorance; but when you are low on gas, you add the 2stroke oil to the oil you already have, and then fill up your gas tank?

Trying to understand

No lol he's talking about mixing a small amount with your fuel, engine oil has nothing to do with it.
