Happy with my new "used" FR-S
Just picked up a certified pre-owned FR-S with 3,000 miles on it and got it for $3,800 off what a new MSRP would be. I was struggling with deciding on getting this or a new one, but the discount seemed like a good deal.
It's an ultramarine, and I do notice some slight swirl marks in the paint - would love to hear any recommendations for a specific polish or wax that can help me get it back to pristine condition if possible. So far, I'm loving the car. |

![]() Look into getting a clay bar.. Does a good job of cleaning the surface and removing stains and swirls. Then apply a wax.. Go for a polymer wax that bonds to the clear coat.. There are several out there.. I use meguires NXT. Easy to use and lasts a long while. There are other esoteric brands such as zaino, which have all kinds of options... |

Wash (Dawn dish soap)> Claybar > Polish > Wash > Wax
autogeek has a lot of information and a lot of product recommendations. You'll probably want to pick up an orbital buffer and several pads of varying aggressiveness (makes it a hell of a lot easier). Simply claybarring the car won't remove swirls as swirls are small scratches in the paint. You have to polish them out. |

$3800 off MSRP for a 3k miles used car at the end of the year....a good deal? are you guys nuts?!!
holyshit, how much are you guys paying for cars? If you think MSRP is remotely an ok price to measure anything against, let alone (and god forbid) pay that price...then I'm just amazed. I bought my '13 accord $2100 under MSRP and it was the very first batch of new Accords to arrive. That was close to $500 less than "fair purchase price". That was not a good deal, that was just a decent price to pay. I just got my BRZ for $2000 less than MSRP and that includes a $650 shipping charge. Again, good price, not an amazing deal. (both cars are new, delivered with 6 and 8 miles respectively) Please, people, learn to not get ripped off. And congratz to OP on the car! |

And the swirl marks are removed with claying-wax since it's a new car and probably those marks are very superficial. Don't polish!! try a good wash, clay, good polymer wax first. If that removes the swirls I would consider trying opticoat 2.0, it's worth it.
If it is in the hood, fenders, I'd recommend clear bra after removing the swirls. Since our cars are low to the ground, clear bra'ing only the bumper is not enough protection against rock chips. |

Incorrect. I'm in Cali. Had one dealer down to $300 parts credit, then one at $700 off, then another at $500 off w/ an iPad before finally settling on $1000 off before any Toyota incentives. This is on a 10 series even.
Pure pricing is BS and deserves to die. Don't fall for it. |
