Used Elise prices sky-rocketing?

I remember almost buying a 2005 base Elise for $20k four years ago, they were plentiful at that price range. Now even high milage examples are $30k. Whats the deal are these going to be the Porsche 550 Spyder of the last decade?

Noticed the same thing. I guess that's what happens when you can't get the new ones anymore.

Yep, and it's only going to get worse. If you want one, better get one now.

In 2009, during the depths of the recession, I almost pulled the trigger on a loaded 2006 with like 4k miles for $25k. Kind of kicking myself about it now, as I could have driven the crap out of it for 4 years and sold it for the same price today.

I could've bought one instead of the FR-S, but I've got such a hard-on about Exiges, I just couldn't bring myself to purchase an Elise in fear that I'd always be mad about it not being an Exige.

the glued together unibody and high cost to relpace fenders and bumpers kept me from ever buying on but man they are fun to drive.

Owning an FR-S has almost completely eliminated my desire to have an Elise. I already have a fast, fun, nimble, RWD car. If I were to get a 2-seater, it would be a C7 rocketship or C5 Z06 track rat. I LOVED the Elise. If I wanted something truly elemental, I'd get a Caterham or equivalent.

The main thing I'd worry about is replacing the clams.

Honestly if I wanted to do it on a budget, I'd pick up a MR Spyder, swap in a 2ZZ, maybe some forced induction and body mods, and have my own almost-Elise.

I noticed this too (prices going up). I have always wanted an Elise, but they are not practical at all for me as a daily driver. And with three young kids and upcoming costs (potentially private school starting in junior high and then college) I have a hard time adding a Lotus as a third car when I already own a BRZ...

$30K buys you a very nice used Vette...

And is a Vette really any more practical?

Well… you can fit a toothbrush in addition to a pair ofunderwear that you’d be limited to in an Elise. You also aren’t forced to playfootsies with your passenger just by sitting still.
