So my chirps have been on and off. I am planning on calling the dealership that I work with all of the time to report the problem and have them notify my when there is an actual updated fix for it.

My question to you guys is, for the people that have taken their cars in to get them worked on for the crickets, did you have any mods on the car? I don't want to show up to the dealership to get them fixed when there is actually a fix and they give me some run-around about how there are mods on the car.

Anyone have a part number for this newest replacement pump? I heard it is a different part number.

So, I had the parts replaced over a month ago, the chirps returned and after speaking with Scion Headquarters they gave me two options:

1. Keep the car and whenever/if Toyota finds a fix they will contact me and fix it.

2. Scion buys the car back. (its through some 3rd party thing)

He told me that they redesigned the parts that caused the problem but they now understand that it isn't enough to solve the issue.

I had my pump replaced about 2 weeks ago, and the service manager told me it was the same part number as the original.

Slightly off topic: this is one thing that leads me to believe they may go with a larger displacement engine in 2015, to do away with this issue because they can't fix it.

So what exactly is causing the racket if not for the HPFP & how can a bigger engine displacement make any difference ?

In my case the noisy pump s h i t s me but rarely as I'm often on the move & have the Perrin CBE so I can't hear it.

So my chirps definitely get louder as temperature increases. The other thing I think I notice is, as chirps get louder, the fuel trims at idle seem to get wacky, jumping as high as +15%. This might indicate that the chirp is affecting the pump pressure... if there is not as much pressure as expected, the IDC will need to increase to achieve the same amount of fuel required to hit AFR targets.

I'm looking at LTFT1 and STFT1 in Torque.

In normal driving the trims don't seem to be as erratic - mainly at idle and low load do they stray. But in cooler temps and less chirping, the fuel trims come back to reasonable levels.

Completely stock ECU, unmodded powertrain.

I think he means that with a larger displacement engine they could get the same power output without the complex DI system.

Apparantly so. Service manager said it's the same part#, but it's a totally different part. He compared it to when the older Prius' needed new brake boosters. I dunno how credible or true it is, but my service manager at Holman's is a nice guy. Very fast service and friendly. So I guess I sorta trust him? Guess we will see in a few months though haha.

Also, maybe it's a psychological thing, but without the chirps the car seems to drive smoother. It's probably psychological if I'm the only one that thinks so lol.

my idle feels SLIGHTLY different to me when i hear the chirps, hunts from 600-800 SOMETIMES, but like you said, could just be phycological and me looking for problems because its annoying the shit out of me... really starting to sadden me that they havent fixed this yet, and with the possibility of a new engine in 015, theres the possibility that theyre will never actually be a fix

I actually got my chirps to go away with a Unichip map. Too bad it was the wrong one.

At dealership now. Service guy just said, "The chirping is a normal sound. Subaru is no longer replacing the fuel pump and there are no future plans to address the noise. It's been declared as a normal."
His proof that this is normal?
"I have a buddy with a Ford Diesle truck and his makes the same sound. It's just the pressure with the fuel pump."

They aren't replacing them anymore because the new pumps aren't fixing the problem. Toyota at least says to wait for a fix. Subaru sounds like you're SOL, lol. We know that when one fix shows up, it will be for Subaru and Toyota. That would be so stupid if it weren't.
