Suspension clunk/thump going over bumps

i.e. my driveway has one of those humps, or say a speed bump - especially if the wheel is turned. I can hear and feel a thump in the steering wheel and through the floor board. It's getting increasingly worse. I did a very quick check under the car and didn't find anything.

Would rather fix it myself if possible because the dealer here couldn't fix anything if their lives depended on it.

Before I break down and take it to the dealer, has anyone else experienced something similar?

Have you figured out the cause? My brz has been making clunking noise when I go over bumps or up a driveway too. The sound is coming from front underneath of the ca.

Getting worse, dealer appointment on Friday. I'll update the thread...then again I forget things so if I haven't replied by mid-week next week remind me!

every time I've heard this noise on a car, it has been a blown strut. when it blows out, even small bumps hit the bump stops, causing the noise.

check nuts on the bracing under the hood, but do not tighten them anything over 15lbs other wise you will sheer the stud off.

mine were loose and shifting under load. sounded like I had toasted a ball joint.

i added some rubber washers under the brace where it meets the body just in case. haven't heard anything since.

I have the same issue, thought it was from all the bushings I did.

The clunk you are referring to is bare metal rubbing in the trunk, a huge thread already exists about it and using/spraying WD40 fixes it

Tried the WD 40 trick and one of the sounds went away but I still have another.

Mine wasn't the under-hood braces.

I get this in my personal BRZ, but we have not seen it in the shop car. It almost feels like the front lower control arm bushings to me. I check them every time I have the car in the air, and have also poked and prodded just about everything I can think to check and have come up with nothing.

Also, mine has not gotten any worse, but I noticed it around 1.5K miles and I am just over 3K miles now, no suspension mods besides front camber bolts, and Whiteline rear subframe bushings. The noise happened when the car was 100% stock as well.

I almost hope it is the front control arm bushings as I want an excuse to go with the Whiteline Anti Lift Kit haha. Oh and just to be clear, this is not the sound of the rear trunk pop, I have that as well

Thanks,
Rick
