You get the information you need make a first scale and then make fine tune adjustments as every car will respond differently.

The AirRaid is not bad because they went a different route, it was just one that required a different tune approach. None of which means it made the product faulty just that it required the proper adjustments to make the power you would want it to.
However since it is very common in the lower sections of car modifications to just want to bolt something on and go faster. (Not cover all bases and many times not even maintain the vehicle) Its very common for people to think that things seem to not work correctly or not do what they think they should do. Investing in the ability to tune or a tuner who has the kind of experience to handle said issues is normally not the forefront of many customers minds. Quick, simple and cheap is.

Frankly putting on an air intake and doing nothing more is like putting a normal size straw over a coffee straw. You really didn't accomplish much if there is still a restriction else where.
Short answer is none of the aftermarket intakes are worth half what people are paying for them. The stock air box on this car is great, the filter may suck but that's easily changed. Most aftermarket intakes are nothing more than a cone filter on a pipe; some just happen to put a snazzy box around the filter.

Sure, you can tune around a massive turbulence near your MAF, but why should you have to tune around a hardware problem after you're paying extra for this hardware problem. The airRaid moves the MAF to a more turbulent area of the filter on a pipe, and then tuners have to work around it because the hardware sucks. Yes, software can cover hardwares faults, but why should I have to fix a fault with a part I bought to 'fix a fault?'

Actually its common to have the MAF in that location, so while the location may seem different in the same light its more the design around it's location that shows if its turbulent and or needs to be adjusted for.

This debate was actually found all the way back in 97 for GM Vehicles and even before then. (Documentation was much easier to find at that time) People would Descreen the MAF's on vehicles and then polish the housings saying they made the car faster. Dyno's would show an improvement but the truth was the readings were off and it caused the need for MAF re-calibration. However once identified all those years ago it was easy to handle and from that we were able to determine the best method.
Even the factory would Descreen MAF's on certain models, it has again been a long standing debate but in the end it was found that the whole sum of the parts determined the response not if someone felt the placement caused an issue but never provided the actual engineering testing and results to show it.

I will agree if a stock box is fine why change it? But then people also still believe oiling a K&N protects you from dirt and increases air flow. I remember a post on the Nissan Forums disproving this and showing actual flow results along with what got through it and people were shocked to suddenly see that the results were the complete opposite. Oiling produced more dirt in a shorter period and a much greater loss of ability to flow air through the filter very quickly. Unlike the Linear curves found with standard filters. This has not stopped aftermarket companies from selling them but it has caused for a lot of misinformation to exist. As with anything on the internet this misinformation can be anywhere and some will run with it throwing said information at a product only to find once researched it is exactly the opposite.

A stock airbox with the right filter is great for many vehicles, mine would have probably been just fine. I however choose to change it for a few reasons, I also liked some of the options provided by the AirRaid's setup that came with it not requiring extra payment nor requiring a large investment compared to the other intakes many are running.
I also however never thought I would not need to tune for the changes and that was one of the biggest things on my list from the start.

Yet having all the experience I did I could see the EcuTek cable was not what I considered a good investment, especially since I intended to stop with bolt on's as this car was never going to be taken too far. Its a Daily that's under warranty, I have toys for the purpose of going further. I worked with some of the options, I did my best to provide feedback throughout my busy schedule and I have not been able to do all of it that I would like to.

What I have done though has met resistance from those who feel differently and to me that's fine, it sparks a great conversation but to many times it ruffles feathers and I have never been one to be silent or agree just because a group feel's that way. I have and will continue to do things my way because my way has not only taught me everything I know now but has produced results I can show from use not just talk about as speculation. (I also do a considerable amount of research as many others do, but I like to combine both as often as I can)

Either way, I have enjoyed the conversation and I know you're one of the more heavily modified FR-S vehicles in the group. I like having conversations of this nature, its not uncommon to learn something from these discussions and I look forward to them every time. (Plus sometimes at works its a great way to pass the time, however today and this week has been very busy) :happy0180:

Hi guys,
I know this isn't car related but somebody opened my gate today while I was at work and let my dogs out. I was hoping that anyone who lives in the West Valley can keep an eye out and help spread the word. I would really appreciate it. Here is a link to a site that I made that has a picture of them and contact info.

Check the county pound every day, call the humane society daily, post a reward on craigslist in the lost animals section. Post flyers. Are they chipped?
