They added 250lbs to the US version to meet crash test specs. Ruins the car in my opinion. I'm not sure where you saw the $54,000 number, as I'm near the top on two dealers wait lists and haven't been told a thing about pricing.

I got tired of waiting for it so I bought an Evora instead. Not looking back now.

About 2300lbs. It was more than a 10% increase in weight which also will make the power/weight ratio worse than a Cayman S, I believe. That, the fact that I'm not a 4cyl guy, the headlights, and the lack of armrests swayed me to the Evora.

I really like the Evora, figured it'd be an attainable supercar when they hit the 50s. I'd like mine with the stick. But when I found out that replacing the clutch costs nine thousand dollars.. well, that kinda soured the deal for me.

Eh. The clutch replacement requires the engine to be removed. At dealer labor rates it is estimated to cost 9k. I'm not going to pay dealer shop rates under any circumstances!
There hasn't been an issue with the clutch in the Evoras so I'm not worried about it. Best I can tell two have been replaced and both were done under warranty. At least one was a due to driver error.

The big thing is to keep your foot off the pedal. There is no dead pedal in the Evora and not a ton of room, so you have to think about that....

Why the Alfa Romeo 4C really matters to all of us.

Carbon fiber tub. (Or really carbon fiber monocoque chassis in this case)

Oh wait, those have been around in supercars for a while now, eh?

Yes, Supercars.

The 4C is rumored (rumored) to be around $50K-80K in the USA.

This shows that carbon fiber is really coming down to a lower pricing point for the masses, maybe in a few years you'll see it in a sub 30K car. It is possible and that is a beautiful thing.

Thanks for your time.

i would love to agree with that. i am obsessed with what the car will be. i dont think that those numbers will be met as you seem skeptical of as well. on a side note, its also probably the reason why i would never buy one. steel is heavy but i love that its fixable...a man can dream though

Like I said in the other thread, "sources" say official US price starts 54,000. Even if it is, the limited allocation will ensure that price stays nowhere near 54,000. Many more sources are reporting this price now, and the latest update is that it's being delayed in the USA now and won't be out until at least second quarter next year.

And I think that the 4C introduces us to the same problem any other car would have. Production. Carbon fiber is getting cheaper, but they just can't produce them as fast as they can stamp out metal parts.
