On topic, has anyone in here had a crank sensor issue? I had a CEL show up this weekend after The Dragon. Drove home and seemed fine. My VSC error light was on the last day on the way home. The one that's on the tach, not the ones that tell you if you have it off. It wouldn't let me turn then traction control off either. So I dropped it off to Toyota this morning to have them fix whatever went wrong and they said I had a crank sensor issue and the VSC issue was probably due to the faulty starting and the CEL that was on. They said they are waiting to hear back from Toyota about the codes (I asked them to write them down for me to keep a record) and that since they didn't have an answer today that they'd keep the car until they heard back.

I was at Tail of the Dragon with the S2ki group this weekend and I was going nuts watching this in standard def. Do you know how painful that was? I kept loosing the ball at times.

That said, I heard them screw up and talk about Manziel when they talked about AJ and Mandel our punt kicker. They put up the Texas A&M logo up when it was our drive talking about our drive. They did stuff like that all through the game. I'm sorry, but yes Manziel is a miracle worker at times and hustles like no other but people are all up on him to the point that everyone is sick of the one trick player team. I want to take a moment to say that Florida had Tebow, Auburn had Cam Newton but Alabama has been a team effort. It's not one crazy star player. It's a team, a well coached team with plenty of talent but no single shining star. I love AJ and will damn near die when he leaves this year but even he isn't the one player that the team is built around. That said, Mark Ingram was a damn good running back but it wasn't just him either.

Too much?

So you have a full blown turbo as well? How are you liking it if so... who installed it?

Sorry your car is being held captive by the dealership. Hope all is well in that situation.

Yep. I have the stage 1 on 9psi with 291whp. I'm about to send LJ a file and see what's going on as well as what the dealer feedback ends up being. It's got to be an issue on there end. Well... I'm really really hoping that it is and we can sort it out under warranty. They seem to be a good group of guys up there at my dealership.

I have not heard of anyone having a crank angle sensor issue though. I don't remember seeing a crank angle sensor on our car. I thought our car uses a cam angle sensor instead which multiple people have had issues with. What code did it throw?

Literally, as I'm typing a reply they called. So the guy did call it a crank sensor issue but here's what I just got after a few min on the phone with them. They're gonna email me everything in a few min but I'm gonna take a nap since I work tonight.

P0016 - cam shaft/crank shaft position composition correlating bank 1 sensor A

also P1604 - start ability malfunction

I have had an issue with the start ability before and without typing up anything long, I had this addressed with a different tune. Or at least I was pretty sure I had, maybe I still do.

So Toyota says that the ECM is also part of the P0016 issue and that I need to check with my tuner since I have flashed my ECM and modified the car.

I'm gonna check on this and let you know how it all goes. If the sensor is what's at fault though I will talk with my dealer about the part being replaced under warranty since it has no correlation to my mods but that's difficult to do on the phone.

They also claim they can't hear the crickets in my fuel pump but didn't charge me to balance my wheels. So I'm not sure how cool this dealership is gonna be with me.

One quick search showed a TSB but the PDF says:

Quote:
Some 2013 model year FR-S vehicles may exhibit intake and/or exhaust camshaft position sensor
related and/or engine misfire DTCs (P0340, P0341, P0345, P0346, P0365, P0366, P0390, P0391,
P0301, P0302, P0303, and P0304) due to the camshaft position sensor clearance being out of
specification. In addition, some vehicles may also experience rough idle or extended cranking. This
bulletin provides inspection and repair procedures to address this condition.

This bulletin applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown
below.
MODEL PRODUCTION CHANGE EFFECTIVE VIN
FR-S JF1ZNAA1#D#008792
Any help is appreciated since I need a way to show that this is an issue with the sensor needing to be replaced on other cars so I don't have to do a silly song and dance with Toyota.

Those are both pretty common issues for people with stock ECMs. I don't think the ECM or the tune is the issue, although the tune could certainly cause starting issues.

Thanks, just posted another little something above you. I'll be emailing LJ in 2 sec and then sleeping.

Damn, hope you get that figured out. Not sure what VIN mine is, and mine runs fine at 14k miles. I've tried to run it hard as I can to see if something is going to break. Car always reacts normal. Never had a CEL issue or any of the sort. I've had the popping in the rear deck issue, but wd40 fixed that real quick. Keep us posted.
