My Modified Blox Racing FR-S Style Shifting Knob - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hello All,

I just wanted to share with you my modification of a Manual Transmission shifting knob made by Blox Racing.
Naturally, many companies forget about 'We" people who use an automatic transmission with manual override
and tap shifters. So I took it upon myself to modify one of these nice shifting knobs for myself.

A stock Blox Racing Shifting Knob for the manual transmission version of our cars that use a reverse lock-out
lever. Currently only available for the manual transmission.

The lathe cut insert that I designed to remedy the "Manual Transmission Only" dilemma that I most dislike.

The insert that I designed shown placed into the knob with epoxy after drilling out the M12x1.25 tap in the
knob with a 5/8" diameter drill. Remember, the tap in the insert is M10x1.25.

The stock Automatic Transmission shift knob shown with my custom Blox Racing shift knob now converted to
be used with an Automatic Transmission.

$40 for the shifter knob. $50 for a guy to turn the piece of Aluminum to my specifications on a lathe. So, $90 total. I already had the JB Weld Epoxy from 2 years ago. However, if you want to add that cost into the mix then it would be another $6-8. Then the cost would be a max of $98.

Considering the cost of some shifter knobs I got what I wanted at no more cost then those $100 plus shifter knobs.

Why? Do you want to get/make one?

Is the knob not threaded? I'm guessing this could have been accomplished by having external threads on the lathed part you had made instead of epoxying it into the shift knob.

I could not just add an M12 outer thread to the insert part because I needed to put an M10 thread within it. Not much material left to serve as a wall between outer and inner threads. That's why I drilled out the knob and epoxied the insert into it.

I didn't realize the AT knob is also threaded on.

so if i get an adapter to 12x1.25 to 10x1.25 and thread that into the knob then put that onto the shifter would it be the same thing? they go for like $4

You'll be able to convert the thread, but you have nothing that will hook the boot.

you should see if your guy can make a bunch of those adapter pieces and maybe lower the price a lil and ppl may buy them up to they can buy MT knobs and have them work on AT
