Just an FYI.

also I have to say I don't think I "wanted" to see a swastika. wouldve preferred the pistons
It's not necessarily a conscious decision. Most people are much more familiar with World War II and its powerful imagery than the obscure history surrounding the GT86 and AE86, hence they see Nazi symbology instead of pistons.

There was a really old thread when the car first came out about a few owners with experience of people calling the 86 symbol the swastika

When I originally saw this article, and then thought about this thread I assumed that the news stumbled upon a FR-S stocked Scion dealer:

so everyone is actually referring to the das reich ss symbol... looks nothing like a swastika. I see the resemblance to the the ss I guess but idk how or why people would automatically see that lol its a stretch...

Well, whatever you see in the emblem it makes sense... Japan and Germany were axis powers... And aren't they combining powers now for a sports car (BMW)? Oh wait, and Mazda is working with Alfa Romeo? HOLY CRAP! WW3! Japan, Germany AND Italy are working together and they're going to take over the world with autos!

The "SS" symbol has never once came to mind when looking at the 86 sysmbol and it still doesnt resemble one to me...Guess ive known it was in 86 for to long.

i didn't notice the symbol before, now i do. prob still gonna get them anyway. unless your blatantly wearing a gustapo uniform i disregard these types of associations. if it is good someone will always comes along and ruin it

It is. Supposed to bring good luck and ward off ill fortune.

They also do something similar in Korea.

As soon as I saw the topic title I knew exactly what you were talking about.

You're definitely not alone. It has a very strong resemblance to the insignia of the Nazi Schutzstaffel.
