I'm super interested in buying a weekend for my wife's upcoming birthday. She only has about 8-10 autocrosses worth of experience and she'd be driving a bone stock 2010 MazdaSpeed 3.

Since we've never done a full-blown track event, is there anything we should know before I go ahead and take the plunge and drop $300 on this for her? (She has a helmet she uses for AX, but I'll double-check for the rating. I may have to pick her up a new one)

One of my biggest concerns is that this car is her "daily driver". It's track-capable imho, but it'll need to get her to work on Monday morning too.

If you take an autocross mentality, you'll be fine.

Going in the green group, you have an instructor riding along all time. They'll provide great feedback.

You'll need helmet, numbers, water, sunscreen, chairs, etc. The only difference is you have to take your car to get it tech inspected before the event. You just print the form out and take it anywhere to get the list checked off.

I will be driving my daily there and back as well.

Also, this is next Thursday-Friday. It's not a weekend event unfortunately.

Yeah, sadly that may actually be the deal breaker. It's tough for her to take a even a couple of days off work, espcially with our vacation looming. I'll cross my fingers though!

If you really have the free time to do some other roads. Plan your trip to run to Back of the Dragon (Tazwell to Marion VA on VA16) and then a little ways down from there is 421 The Snake.
Cool, thanks. I'll PM you when I plan on heading there. My BRZ wont be delivered to me until before the 8th of October, so maybe some time shortly after that. Looking forward to the drive back as equal as getting up to where I'm going. Hadn't heard of the Back of the Dragon, only the "Tail." Can't imagine how many awesome roads are there. One thing I hate about FL

Odd question, but does anyone know of any tuners that are around the eastern side of NC (originally from Winston)? Hampton Roads sucks in this department, So was wondering if there were any near Elizabeth City but no further than Raliegh, else I'd be better off heading to DC.

When I lived in FL, I used to look forward to certain on/off ramps on I-95, so I have felt your pain. Luckily(?) I didn't own a sports car then, just my Mustang and a borrowed exotic from time to time.

Here's some more pics from after our pace laps on VIR... still on a high from Saturday, even had my dad talk about how much he enjoyed being up there.

One non-86 pic in there, but it's the best kind of car porn really...
