^I haven't had time to catch myself up on it but I'm open to hearing what others say.
Hey Giccin how's the recovery going? Was your car written off as a total loss or... ? If you don't wanna discuss... heyy it's all good in the hood.

From what I understand.. wielding metal the second time around makes it weaker or something like that... and it sounds like the trunk is about to break apart. :l I need to get an MRI for my back because there's this strange sharp pain when I work out. The chiro said it seems like there might be a slip disc that's pinching one of my nerves. I'm trying to milk the chiro as much as I can. Lol. More visits = bigger settlement! wee.

^Ahh the back stuff makes me queasy. D: All I can say take the physical activity easy for a while & GL~
1k under?! Sounds sketchy... maybe the body shop knowingly skimped on repairs to keep costs below the salvage mark. Was the body shop recommended by your insurance company? They tend to give BS estimates just to get a repair job out of it. I coulda sworn your damage escalated in through the unibody frame. You're right welding causes inconsistencies in frame rigidity... basically the weld point is stronger then surrounding areas and creates new buckle points that weren't intended/engineered to buckle. There are high-tech methods to properly weld a frame closer to factory condition but that process typically exceeds the cost of the car (I don't think your mechanic used those methods). This is what I remember seeing in a body shop Toyota-certification pamphlet. Check if your insurance company has a supplemental repair option (offered when initial repairs are sub par) then maybe you can shop for an honest body shop if you haven't already given up on the car. But if you're certain your mechanic was honest then nevermind.

When he went to do weekly check-ups on how the car was doing.. he saw a Frankenstein-ish looking car. The front 1/3 was his factory, the 1/3 was from a blue fit and the rear portion was from a black fit. It seemed like the mechanic just salvaged other fit parts and put it together with the current car after cutting up the damaged bits. Now... I know that's a sign of something bad. Lol I had an argument with my bf that you it is very difficult to wield something back together after its been seriously damaged. Since the metal won't be the same (thank you Wangan Midnight anime for teaching me something and this forum. Lol). Well.. it won't matter too much... he plans on selling the fit now. He'll be picking up a Truck next time around or something van-like or mini SUV... or.. something with a hatchback (he was looking at the velostar). And for a sporty car.. he'd like me to get a BRZ if I really want it. Because that'll be our sports car together. lol Edit: He was looking for an MR2 spyder in great condition.. but it's getting rather hard to find. Lol

^I suggest he sell it to a used car dealer. He'll get more money than trading in to a major car dealership or Carmax and it's less hassle than doing a private sale of a wrecked car.
Spyders are everywhere on craigslist haha but yeah low mileage, unabused is super rare. He could try to find one with engine problems (pre-cat failure) and an excellent body for real cheap then swap in a 2zz (an affordable swap due to its popularity). Veloster is very appealing. Modern day CRX w/ motorcycle interior. Tell him to consider the SX4... it's a mini SUV crossed w/ the Mini Cooper. I looked at the Fit, Yaris, Impreza, Scion xA/xB/xD then realized the SX4 combines all of them in a package value that blows them out the water. Mine is AWD but if you don't need AWD in SoCal the FWD SX4 Sportback is sexier (same car celebs drive on Top Gear USA's track) but I'd pick the Veloster or Mazda3 for FWD. The new Yaris SE is also cool styled by the same lead designer as the Toyota 86. ![]()

If the 86 weren't coming and I were in the market for a FWD car it'd be between the upcoming Swift Sport and Turbo Veloster.

Man I hate dealing with shops, accidents, insurance. I thought my car should have been totaled too. They used really cheap paint which is swiss cheese now after 30k miles. They also used a solid aftermarket engine mount instead of the Honda oil filled one and my car was going to vibrate itself to pieces. Luckily the insurance paid another shop to put in the correct part, but only after several more visits and persistent phone calls.
Other shops give paint with holograms, completely out of spec alignments that you can see by looking at it, etc etc.

My accident, shop was least of my worry. That shop was owned by my good friend's uncle & the itself is well known & well respected body shop. They fix Ferrari, Porsche, Austin Martin, & all other ridiculous to fix cars
My main worry was insurance been bitch & trying not to cover all my chiro bill... That's when I hired lawyer |
