Oh, well now … why didn't you SAY so, sooner?

LOL!

Now, all is clear. Of COURSE he hired you on the spot; you were the first one to show up with your very own FR-S DONOR CAR!

I promise that, with time, you won't even miss those luxuries if you are truly happy with what you do everyday. We need those luxuries because our day-to-day lives are unfulfilling and thusly we pepper our life with material possessions to make up for the void in our immaterial life.
I have a very simple motto I live my life by. You can always make more money, but you can't make more time. I greatly value my time off, and I make sure I get the most time off I can.

other than buying a car with a factory turbo, that's got to be the next best scenario - working for the company that makes the turbo as i'm sure that any FI issues would be taken care of by the company. much better than being out on your own. looks like that $8500 pay cut got partially offset by a turbo kit. nice!

Indeed. To waste someone's time is a most grievous offense.

Haha, good point. I was going to take my tax money/bonus and turbo my car anyways next summer. But now I may not have to do that LOL.

I agree with everyone that says $3/hr ain't jack for a job that makes you happier.

EXCEPT you're 31 years old and still taking money from the parents. At that age, time to grow up and stand on your own two feet, and if you can't, you shouldn't be taking a voluntary pay cut.

Understood. We only needed some help while my wife quite her job to finish medical school. We went from a dual income back to a single for about six months. But your right, I can't pay for the mortgage, car payments, insurance, and all other bills completely on my own. I wish I could, but at 31, im not making six figures yet.

Don't worry man, I would reckon a majority of people don't make 6 figures ever. Never feel obliged to justify your finances to anyone but yourself. If you are someone who likes putting away in a retirement account do it and if you like spending all that money on the latest gadgets or a turbo it or whatever makes you happy then do that.

You really do only live once and the choices you make only have to make you happy, well i guess your wife a little bit too...

I have turned down multiple higher paying jobs from game dev companie, and even Google because right now, i am doing what i absolutely love and i dont regret any of those decisions.

If you truly enjoy what you are doing, then money should rarely be an issue. Also, if you are truly passionate about your job, you will work harder and as a result, move up much faster.

I think you made the right choice.

That's great advice until you're in a situation (retired or else wise) where you have a sweet ride, nice gadgets, no savings, and no job (or just a reduced income like op).

There's a happy balance between saving all your money for the future and blowing it all and enjoying life now...
