Has anyone else had this issue?!?

My dealer wont fix mine either.

Well, I took mine to a dif dealer than where I bought it. I'm assuming that them being cheap and not gaining anything from spending the money to replace the parts is what caused them to decline to fix it. On my next non-holiday day off, I'm going to take my car in to where I bought them (on the other side of town) and see if they'll fix it.

BTW Houstonians the dealer that declined to fix anything was Mike Calvert Toyota on 610 and Kirby. Just in case you feel to take your FRS there, don't. They have terrible cust. support, not friendly at all, and their manager is demeaning. No one at that place is willing to so much as lift a finger to make a few calls to Toyota to see that there is indeed a TSB on the fuelpump (I had to print out from their site to prove to them) it was despicable.

So has anyone else had their rearview mirror simply fall off during normal driving situations? The "shoe" on the windshield is fine, but the two screws holding the assembly to the shoe was not designed well. Subi National Customer Service is now involved, and the car goes into the dealer this Saturday morning for assessment.

It's fallen off *twice* now...and oh yeah, I have crickets...the dealer wasn't aware of the TSB until I printed it and dropped it off.

Has the chirp returned yet?

Does anyone know if Toyota has issued a new or updated TSB for the Fuel Pump Chirping since the last one published in Sept 2012? And I recently heard that the cracking and popping decklid issue now has a TSB for Toyota. Any copies of that?

Regarding the High Pressure Fuel Pump and the Crickets; Does anyone know if an after market HPFP is available? I've tried looking for one, but I really have had no success. If there is one available I'll have my dealer replace my second HPFP with it, but make them do the labor work under warranty regardless of the fact that the pump won't be under warranty. The cost for this pump would be out of my pocket afterall!!!

FYI... After battling it out since I got my car, and about to be the 3rd fuel pump, the service department at Subaru told me a new bulletin is coming out for the High Pressure Fuel Pump. This will be another redesign, 3rd if you count the very first production pumps that were chirping. I dont know how honest they were being, but they claim there are very few pumps available right now bc they are just starting to manufacture the new ones. I would suggest going to your dealer and getting in line for the new ones if you are still having the chirp. If they say they don't know what your talking about tell them to contact Subaru.

I have been going round and round with a local dealer about my car over the past week and half in the form of phone calls and visits. In a nutshell the service mgr admitted lying to me to the regional rep as well as the gm of the dealership. The service mgr I spoke with about the HPFP, the windows, the trunk/deck popping, the rough idle/startup etc basically tried to say the car had been "misused" and under the Subaru guidelines they would void my warranty.

The service manager lied to the regional rep about multiple things including the type of gas I have been running in the car. This guy told the regional rep among other things that I told him I only ran reg unleaded because it was cheaper but I knew the car required premium. Also that I ask him if the cheap gas caused the cricket noise. This sent me into a world of pissed off I have never even thought about being in.

Being an anal retentive person and protective of my toys I decided from the moment I bought the BRZ to save every gas receipt for every drop of gas I put in the car being that it uses only premium. I do the same with my boats since they require 100% non ethanol. Hell I've even got the receipts for the touchless car washes too. Tend to keep most receipts due to work travel, write offs etc.

Long story short after the first two runarounds with that dealership I decided it was in my best interest to record future dealings with them. It saved my ass. In the meeting today with the gm of the dealership I played for him the recordings and to the shock of the service manager AND the regional rep I produced all my gas records. I had a nice little spreadsheet of gas, date, mpg, where etc that way if I drove my car to work vs my state issued car I could write off the milage for taxes, oil changes etc. I also brought in the transaction info from my credit card company AND the physical receipts showing the type of gas purchased. The look on the service managers face was priceless. The gm and rep got to hear the service mgr go on to tell me I knew nothing about cars, there was NEVER a TSB for the car, the HPFP or rear end noise. Even when I questioned the service manager about the crickets and information I had printed out with parts numbers, dates and revision dates for the HPFP he told me I just didn't know a lot about cars.

Also got the service manager to admit he told me it was all my fault that the windows were making noise because I had them tinted. The owner of the business that tinted the windows sent me a nice personal note via email that they have tinted many BRZs (as wells as 458 Italia's, 911s, Maserati, etc) and window tinting had nothing to do with this noise. Added that to the info I gave to the gm and regional rep as well. Also included about a dozen pages from this forum and another related to FRS/BRZ's.

Pretty sure the service manager is getting shit canned for this. The gm looked like he was going to come unglued halfway thru the meeting. The regional rep gave me his personal cell number, offered me every extended warranty available and promised the car would be fixed but if I did not want to keep it they would buy the car back. To cover their ass from the embarrassment I can only assume...

In the beginning I was thinking if I liked this car I could move up in a year or two to an STi or something. At this point I am so pissed about the whole thing I don't know if I would ever trust the Subaru brand again. The flip side is I REALLY enjoy driving the car. I took a back road home and went thru some little curves with the flogging molly turned up and the windows down and I was smiling the whole time. I went thru the car gallery pictures on here when I got home looking at all the amazing cars people own. So much potential with just basic items like wheels and tires, suspension, exhaust, etc even if I never touched the motor. I bought the gold 7/70 extended when I got the car not knowing how long I would keep the car being my first subi product and knowing that I could get a prorated amount back at any time so I am not sure what I am doing about the warranty offer. Going to sleep on it and think about it for a day or so I guess.

Btw, re the above post I will phone the regional rep tomorrow and ask him point blank if there is some type of new TSB or fix in the pipeline. Makes me wonder now why he was telling me we will fix the car...

I have always had very bad experience with Subaru service. I bought a brand new WRX (5speed) in 2005 and at 4k miles I shredded 3rd gear. They claimed that it was the way I drove and they wouldn't replace it (quoted me about 3-4000 parts and labor). After battling for a month they rebuilt the transmission. At 10k miles I took the car in for maintenance and when I hopped in and started the car... 1st gear was missing. I went in and they claimed it wasn't their fault... but obviously i drove the damn thing into the shop and they didn't even say anything about the transmission after the service. They replaced the entire transmission this time under warranty, and then I immediately traded it in for a Mustang. Drove it for 100k on the STOCK clutch and no transmission problems. Now I traded in the stang for a BRZ, have these issues with the fuel pump, and it takes me 2 weeks of battling it out with services to get the damn thing fixed.

As much as I love Subaru, many of their service departments are HORRIBLE, at least in Houston. I plan on keeping this BRZ until the new WRX/STi comes out and then swapping it out, but this has been making me think twice... I love the cars, hate the service. Also... how does it take a company (suby/toyo) 3 times to get a fuel pump right? You'd think they would have had it right the first time, but they didn't even get it the 2nd time. Its not like it's just a freak occurrence in a few cars, it's happening to almost all of them, I've seen polls on forums that show around 90% of BRZ/FR-S owners having this issue.

Good luck with the warranty, I would try to get refunded for your current one and take the 7/100. It will at least help a few hundred if you go to sell it.

I would suggest talking to the guys in your local forum. Ask around and try to find a good dealership to take it to. I found the right dealership before I made my purchase so I wouldn't have these issues.
