I went to my local Hyundai dealer a couple weeks ago to check out the regular Veloster. Told the manager I was interested in the turbo, but wanted to check out the rest of the car. "..The Veloster doesn't come with a turbo," he says, and I awkwardly reply "Yeaaa, but it will." He left me alone when I made it clear I wasn't there to buy.

The interior is very nice, almost GTI quality. The rear seats are going to be a bit awkward for anyone over 5'10" or so. I'm 6'0" and was brushing my head on the rear glass to headliner transition. Would suck if the sun's above and/or behind you.

It's a pretty neat car, but not quite as neat in person, at least for me. They'd need to change the rear suspension like the Jetta GLI and sport~ify the steering and shifting for it to get a pass. The stone donuts, I mean eco-tires didn't help either. Lightweight and decent power only go so far, but they might nab a few buyers with the turbo.

If I were in the market for a FWD hatch, I'd be looking at the MS3 or GTI, not this thing... yet. It'd be nice if they properly tuned the turbo model, but I'm not holding my breath.

its a tiny car so i think they're targeting the Mini and miata crowd, and not the MS3 or GTI...

and the same can be said of the FT. when we look at the FT vs a mini or miata, it looks damn good in comparison, for me anyways...

I think the design of the interior was nice, but certain parts felt cheap. I have to disagree that it was GTI-quality, since I owned and spent almost every day in one for just under a couple years. Shifter and steering wheel felt pretty good though, just wish it had more power.

The hot hatch market will be insane next year though. MS3, GTI, Beetle turbo, Veloster turbo, Focus ST, Abarth 500, and possibly a Fiesta ST and hotted up CR-Z.

Coming from the Miata crowd, color me unimpressed. I dunno, I'm cross shopping quite a few cars without really caring about mileage or looking for a specific size/weight.

Almost GTI quality. And yeah, certain pieces did feel cheap to me as well. The door pulls in particular stood out as kinda cheap, something that I feel should be top quality. But the GTI is head and shoulders above every other <$30k car IMO, and the Veloster was still above average, I'd say.

You guys are giving the GTI's interior too much props. I sat in one of them at a auto show and the majority of the interior felt like cheap plastics. The higher part of the dash was soft and the lower part was hard. The door panels and rear panels were all hard plastics. The one thing that felt high quality and looked high quality was the steering wheel with aluminum trim and the top dash and that was it.

It's not an A8 by any means, but for its price the GTI has an outstanding interior. The touch points are soft and high quality, fit and finish is great and the NVH is low. The seats are nicely bolstered and supportive. Of the cars I could afford, I think it had the best interior, did you have something else in mind?

Hot hatches are in. I'm afraid this would get lost in the crowd. Not a great looking car but not a bad effort.

I am going to go test drive one this week. I think I am done waiting for FRS MSRP.
A Yellow veloster with full option at $21580 is calling my name...

And then the weekend after you buy it, FRS MSRP gets released at $22,580 and you kick yourself in the balls.

neat concept, but the styling is a little too far out there.

call me oldschool but i like straight lines :/

modern cars, esp FWD ones have this whole "egg in a beater" thing going on.
