Yeah I've seen it but they wired in a GM ECU so they lost power steering, throttle, and a ton of other stuff. There are actually quite a few drift setups with a V8 swap but they are full race cars that have been stripped of anything OEM, a shell with a V8 in it, Ford quick change rear end, custom steering racks, pedal boxes, etc.

The factory motor is actually really good with a turbo kit and I'm sure once we build our engine up with our "Pro Comp" treatment we will have no problem pushing 600+ whp reliably. Hooking that up and having the rest of the driveline handle that is a whole other story

Yea, I share the same thoughts. It's doing well under boost.

The only downside to running Hydra is if you are F/I, you cannot swap back to the factory ECU like you could with an NA tune. One thing I wasn't a fan of was the inability to use the OBD II port and Cruise control. I actually never realized how much I used it until it was gone, LOL. CC I can live without, but the OBD II is a PITA for states that require OBD hookup for inspections.

Must be really nice though with the live data, EcuTek is such a PITA with map uploads. One thing that does help is if your computer has a USB 3.0 port, connect your DESkey to that when flashing new maps, its way faster than using the conventional USB port. I swapped my cable/key around to test and there is a noticeable difference in upload time.

Well not everyone has access to what I do but the OBD2 port works on 2.7 CAN Bus Hydras and Cruise Control and DBW Anti-lag is coming. I'm not going to say when the average consumer will have that feature but I will have it long before anyone does.

Now emission related OBD2 is what it is and it's not that we couldn't do it, it's just highly illegal. Reflashing an tampering with your OEM EPA approved ECU tune is also illegal but nobody seems to care So for the NA guys who run the Hydra, your OEM ecu is still bolted in and you just swap the plugs, no big deal. For the boosted guys I would say most will already have a reflashed ecu prior to getting a Hydra. I may even offer a service that will be minor or no fee if you buy a Hydra where I'll flash your OEM ecu to pass. I just think many would like an non-tampered with EMS.

@Element Tuning you caught my eye with the mention of ITBs, has anyone tested this out yet? Would they be DBW or cable operated?

It would probably have to be cable which shouldn't be hard as a 02-05 WRX pedal would bolt up. I had a set of ITBs from Tomei for the Impreza but required a lot of custom work to fit. I think a crazy NA setup would be cool, expensive for the power output, but still cool!

In California, I have 6 years before I need to have my car tested. I will either have the car swapped back to stock, or have sold the car by then, so for as long as I plan to play with my car I don't have to worry about testing.

Really looking forward to how your setup works out. Would love to have the flexibility myself.

Me too!

Waiting on the Hydra and Hydramist to arrive. My tuner originally alluded that they were in stock and readily available when I had him order, but like everything on this build, it's hurry up and wait!

SEMA is happening, so nothing is happening anywhere until that's over.

if i buy the hydra kit on their website it tries to also add a $449 wideband. aside from the fact that it must be made of solid gold or something, is there anything magical about it that would preclude me using my existing lc-1 for the 'autotune' feature?

Hi guys sorry I've been tied up with our engine business, sema, and championships.

The Hydra is tried and true, race tested, and they are developing more advanced maps for flex fuel and now new developments for DBW cruise control and anti-lag.

The wideband kits are sold with and without the "Auto-Tune" feature which adds to the price. Needing the WB is uo to the tuner but the benefit is that you can run the engine in constant closed loop fuel control for the best fuel economy and consistency. As a tuner I require it as its just much faster to tune with it and the basic WB kit is much cheaper.

We are also considering making the Hydra OBD2 compliant but we'll see if demand warrants that.
