I looked at the course maps and it looks like it'll be a lot of fun! Too bad I won't be there

What a great week ...my car has 2 Nationals trophies to its credit, Wish I could have made it 3. Oh well, Now that the car is there, I can pretty much concentrate on my driving. I drove like poo both days, and didn't put my best effort in. Live and learn. Anyways Car and Co-drivers were awesome
thanks for the support ...awesome job guys, it was the fastest 86 in the Ladies Class. Lot of accomplishments and milestones for the Car for sure. .. Special thanks to #Nameless Performance, Wheeldude. and Kartboy for a awesome year of development on the BRZ...Looking forward to next year ![]() Bill

I raced RTR and worked the opposite course during STX but was able to see several nicely prepared BRZ/FRS'. A couple of things, the friendly attitudes between racers even at the championship event is great to see. Also, I don't think the top tire ranking was cleared up, many brands were represented on the podiums: Toyo, BFG, Hankook, Dunlop. So choose your favorite and go racing. |

Well, here's a short trip report - I'll try to keep this brief, but there was a lot packed into a few days.
First, sorry to not talk to more FT86'ers - I know I talked with Steven, but I think that was the only new face. A bit similar to last year when Trev drove my car, I lucked my way into having a new 86 owner as a co-driver. John L would've driven his own car but did not have much prep on it yet and wasn't happy with the handling balance. So, he brought his wheels and tires to nats for a little T&T and then the competition. We 'tested' his 215/45 RS-3's vs my 235/40 Z2's late Wednesday on the practice course. At first, I was significantly quicker on the Z2's and John L was actually quicker on the RS-3's. After some driving adjustments, I was still ~0.5 sec quicker on the Z2's and John L had similar Z2 vs RS-3 times. We were down to four runs and I didn't think we could get the RS-3's to where the Z2's were, but could improve on the Z2's. We decided to go with the Z2's and adjust the setup a bit to try to take out some looseness that John L was a bit uncomfortable with. This seemed to work as I went a bit quicker and John L got right down to my times. I'll forgo a play-by-play of the competition, but will say John L did a great job with the car, improving every run - especially his very last run, which he actually described as all over the place and surprised him with the big (podium-placing Speaking of, note that both the top RT 86 and the top STX 86 had StranoParts on them! Our setup was nothing all that special: Strano front bar with stock end links, off the shelf SA koni's (1 turn up from full soft front and 1/2 up from full soft rear is baseline - minor tweaks from there to suit), alignment with just a bit (3/32" total) rear toe and 0" front toe, bit of exhaust work, strano-recommended and very effective DS2500 pads, and an FT-86 SpeedFactory tested drop in filter. I'll close out with a bunch of videos - unfortunately neither John L or I remembered to start either gopro for his last (his quickest east by a good margin) run! Great videos, and obviously good runs. I compared my lines to yours and see I was pretty much taking similar lines, only slower
. I like how you took the east course 180 degree plus corner much wider in, a better line. This course required a lot of patience at the tight corners, you really had to slow down going in to get the right line out, you did that very well.#47 RTR-(finished 47th), maybe next year. |
