"The WRX will likely be powered by a 265 horsepower version of Subaru's 2.5L boxer-four engine. The STI should boast over 300 horsepower."

So the writer thinks Subaru will make no changes at all to the drive train? My my money's on a turbo FA20 like the Forester XT and Japanese Legacy GT. US Forester XT makes 250hp, JP Forester makes 276hp, and JP Legacy GT makes 296hp. I expect a small increase in advertised power, maybe 275, nothing wild, and a sizable improvement in economy ratings.

For the winter, a good set of snow tires might calm your fear of driving it in the winter (Though i'd argue all cars even 4WD need winter tires...), unless your worried about rust from salt and etc.
It seems the twins are kind of bad for rust. My last car had almost no rust, just at the points where I bottomed out (lowered on coilovers) and suspension bolts but the subframe and suspension arms and struts/springs themselves were rust free.

My BRZ is having a lot of surface rust on the rear suspension arms and exhaust. Haven't had a chance to look at the front. Planning to do some fluid changes and put on the hubcentric rings i got for my wheels so I'll have a better look soon.

I would like Subaru to offer a trim with a dual clutch transmission, ala Evo X MR.

There always has been an AT option for the WRX since it came here in 2002 (4EAT anyone?), and there will likely be one for the 2015 WRX. I don't know why Toyota is even mentioned since a RWD transmission and a AWD transmission is completely different (front axles connect directly do the transmission in a Subaru AWD system). Subaru has been making these kinds of transmissions for decades and I'm sure they know more about it than Toyota does.

I don't know how other people do it, but i make sure to do undercarriage washes every few weeks over the course of winter, and especially when temperatures start warming but salt is still around, plus end of season.

Even if its just driving back and forth slowly over a lawn sprinkler.

I'm torn on what to do this winter also. I know the car would be golden and a hoot as well with good snow tires. And its mpg blows away my forester and truck.

Decisions, decisions.

The 4EAT and 5EAT were junk and I'm glad Subaru stopped using them. They hardly held up with the stock HP. If the new WRX is going to have auto, it will be a Lineartronic CVT they use on the Legacy GT DIT. It will probably be the same 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque as the Legacy.

Yeah, it will most likely be the same drivetrain as the legacy GT, but the CVT leaves something to be desired. An auto that's set up just like the BRZ auto would be much better for the driving experience.

Except for the fact that a CVT would keep you in boost/peak hp&tq all the time.

Yeah, but it gets rid of some of the excitement of driving a sports car. The drone of the engine just sitting at one RPM all the time (even if it is the fastest way to accelerate) just doesn't do anything for me. I'll take a good torque converter or dual clutch auto over a CVT anytime.
