I'm just talking outta my ass but that's what I'm thinking this all may be...

$0.02
Except its not gutless down low like a Honda. My car is making 30+ wtq from 2500-redline over my S2000.

at the end of the day $ is always the answer.

I blame big government for the torque dip.

The torque dip makes it possible to achieve mpg's higher than 20 while climbing a hill slowly, such scenarios as being stuck behind a minivan on the tail of the dragon.

If it gets me better MPGs, I'm all for it. If I want power, I shouldn't be below 4k in a 2.0L 4 banger anyway......

as people have already said.. torque dip equals better fuel milage.
Maximize the cam lobes for power in the normal cruising rpm range to maximze EPA mgp test results at the expense of power in the slightly higher than normal range of 3k to 4k rpms.. Then boost the power again up top to get max hp readings for marketing purposes.

The alternative is a smooth building 190 hp car that gets 28mpgs hwy vs. the tq dip car getting 200hp and 30mpgs hwy (in manual trans of course). The second one is better for marketing.

Now can we put this topic to rest?

Hmm...guess I was mistaken. I thought the "tourque dip" was when one went to WOT in first and then the torque disappears for a second and then comes back to life. I guess that's just the shit factory tune pulling power in order to minimize drivetrain shock at low RPMs for warranty purposes, and not the "real torque dip". Guess there's really two of them.
