Not really seeing the point of paying $$$$ on a subaru platform for a vta catch can. The interface in a nutshell consists of a couple hose barbs and zip ties.
This isn't like other platforms where the kits may include a nice adaptor plate that has to be designed and machined. You're paying $300 for a couple hoses, fittings, bracket, empty tank with just a mesh baffle at the opening and a couple dollar filter that sits on top. After having owned a few catch cans on other platforms including vta at first glance i'd be concerned about a couple things on the d3 kit being mentioned. 1) Draining, draining doesn't look to be clean or dead nuts simple. For $300 on a can, bracket and hoses i'd expect dead nuts simple draining. My solution in the past to draining a vta can was to remove the filter, enlarge one of the mesh holes at the top, and stick a syringe and hose down into the can. I know vta doesn't fill fast, it does eventually fill though especially in colder climates. 2) No way of looking at level. Not at all necessary with how slow vta fills (outside of winter), and a diy dipstick is easy. But still, at $300 for a bracket, can and hoses, it would be nice. 3) vta does make the bay dirty over time, and sometimes you will breathe the fumes, not while driving, but while idling or going slow it does happen. Put a lot of miles on a vta can, especially in the summer cruising around or sitting in traffic with the windows down, you'll see. For a non race application, not really sure i'd use vta again, effective, sure. But it has its compromises for dd use. That said, despite being expensive the radium can looks nice, overkill as fuck, but nice. But is its "filter media" steel wool? I'd like to see one of these rigged up to work. Down the road when the fi dust settles if i make the jump i'll run one. http://www.idparts.com/catalog/produ...oducts_id=2334 Here is an old diy from a tdi application. Not an exact carryover at all and the guy got a bit carried away on the hoses. But it gives an idea of what can be rigged with a can and hardware store fittings/hoses. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=846480 Last edited by utekineir; 09-06-2013 at 10:59 AM. |

So is it a sealed unit? Got a drain or recirculate ? Link? Tell us more.$? I'm not after radium cost or bling, seeking function first and proven under fi on our cars, painted black box is exactly what I seek.

Has anyone used the avo sandwich in conjunction with a Perrin oil cool or mocal sandwich? I would love to see a cut away of the interior baffles, Paul.
