Initially I hated my G35 mainly because of its weight but I also hated my RSX because of its 2.0L torqueless wonder of a engine.
Sounds like there's no winning.

The thing everyone is forgetting is that Subaru is selling an FA20T(turbo) Legacy right now in Japan.

I think Tada is basically admitting failure with the D4S FA20. Subaru's FA20T is 100% Subaru DI, they could drop it in the BRZ for basically no cost increase.

Toyota brass already have Tada moved on to the BMW joint venture. And Toyota brass wants Scion gone, Tada is done with this car IMHO.

Big corporations have been known to eat their young or give them to their in-laws.

This could easily be a turbo'd Subaru only car in 2015 and still priced to compete with the new Miata and the Genesis.

yeah like others said something new will be always be there.
get it now if you want it and can afford it.
or wait 10 years, you will see better car. oh wait! by the time you waited for 10 years, there will be rumor that something new will be coming. so you need to wait another 10 year. damm you'll never buy a car.

I was debating on whether or not to wait for the 2014 version because of all the rumors of 280hp turbo or STI versions coming out in 2014. I got one anyway. As it turns out, the only thing they added were some knee pads. The STI version is basically appearance addons with a few handling tweaks and it's not available for most people anyway. I'm an early adopter usually, so having the fun while it's still new and unique is what I like to do.

They could still add a new engine or turbo. The Prelude had an H23 for the first 2 years and then they released the H22 for the rest of it's life, so it's not impossible.

The 04 Impreza WRX STi is a prime example of what potential buyers are hoping to happen. The 2.0L WRX came here for MY02 in early summer 2001, lots of complaints about the bugeye and lack of STi model, two years later, they make a 2.5 motor specially made for the US market and is sold as a MY04 STi model along with the updated front fascia for all Imprezas. Base WRX gets the 2.5 later down the road.

Based on that history, two years at the earliest is when you can expect a performance improved trim but its rather unusual for that it to happen that early. Hell, Japan getting the tS on the second model year was fairly quick, but they always get tons of trims to choose from when it comes to these kind of cars.

The way I see it, current owners are pessimistic about MY15 while non-owners are optimistic. Just a bit of wishful thinking I suppose. The worst kept secret at the moment is Subaru is dropping the new MY15 WRX which will be here a year from now, and rumors say its going on a diet with a shorter wheelbase and there won't be a 5-door model. The upcoming auto shows will give definite insight on what will happen for MY15. I'd say there will definitely be a higher trim by MY16, either small (tS) or large (STi) with the base version not changing much but still being sold. The foundations of this car is showing that there can easily be more than one trim unlike something like a S2000 or RX-8, which are so well tuned from the factory that its not so reasonable to create a higher trim. The complaints about the S2000 were relatively light, but Honda still budged and changed it to a 2.2L 4 years after release.

I'm doubtful that the car will change next year at all. I would assume they would do 3 years with relatively little changes, then a refresh.

Part of the rationale also has do to with competitors. Nissan is likely building an 86 fighter in the form of a lighter Z or even a 240Z. The new WRX next year will hopefully look sharper based on the concept, etc. As always, the new always seems better, but it's important not to buy something you are not satisfied with. You you think the twins are too slow at first and plan to go FI from the get-go, a 370Z (cheap now) might be a better option or a used Cayman, perhaps a 135i under warranty, or even a classic s2000k?

I love my RSX-S and at this point am quite content (and modified). When I figure out where I'm going to grad school I'll likely make the change one year from now. I would like at least 40 more whp (at their current weight) than the twin currently have with keeping some semblance of a warranty.

I'd guesstimate that they would easily double sales if they could get that power up by 30-50 hp/torques for reasonable cost.

I'm sorry, but I can't take that statement seriously.

If the Next Gen Mustang drops in with a less than 100 inch wheelbase and V8 power then the BRZ better improve its hp...just saying. Americans LOVE their V8s. Don't say they won't cross shop, because they will. And if the Mustang does turn out to be a good car, Ford will do everything to steal sales that they can.

The thought of a Mustang makes me want to puke. Pony cars are a whole different breed. I'll be on the lookout for the new Rear drive Buick Grand Nationals and GNX though.

Probably never been a Ford guy, huh. That is okay, neither am I. I look for the best car, that fits my needs, in the price I want to pay. Those rear drive GM are not going to come in anywhere near the BRZ price range though, and won't be anything like a 86. look for them being straight line highway cruisers.

Unless the mustang drops to 3100 lbs and gets IRS, I won't even consider it no matter how well the live axle performs in one situation

Just drove a new Mustang V-6 rental car in SF. It is a big block of a car that has sloppy handling, overweight even with the V-6, and a lousy driving position. There is no comparison of these cars, they are as different as night and day.........

Both those situations are addressed in most the current rumors about the next generation Mustang. IRS, 16 inches shorter and 6 inches less width and about a 400lbs loss in weight.

I had the chance last year to drive the BRZ(first time with an hour test in the mountains around Napa) and a Mustang 6 convertible(our rental car) in the same mountains on the same day. I Thought the Mustang to be comfortable, powerful enough fun rental car. It wasn't a BRZ, but then again it was a rental. You are right, it was no comparison, but I didn't expect it to be. It was perfect for what I wanted and allowed me to do something I couldn't do with a BRZ. Drive though the Redwood Forests with the top down!

Let's see what happens in a year. Rumor has it that it could be out as early as 2014 1/2 as a 50 year Mustang model.
