To the best of my knowledge the only AEM's out there running on FA20's have been sourced through Mitch Pederson of MPtuning. We have been on and off the AEM with E85 since last August or September on my BRZ (which is obviously the test mule). The ECU development is at a point where it would likely be brought to market by a less discerning companies/tuners. Currently I think Mitch isn't pushing it because we are still working on full system integration.
The Lack of DI PUMP control is probably the easiest problem to resolve, we have a couple options there we are sorting out. ...just to clear that up... Onto the matter at hand taking DI off at this point would put you in the same chapter as the redneck that takes the fuel injection off of a C5 corvette so he can do a blow thru turbo conversion on the stock LS motor... Do some research on the Anti Knock Index (AKI) of fuels at port injection pressure and a DI pressure, then do some more research on combustion chamber cooling and the 3 stages of injection timing available and utilized by modern DI systems. Having (and understanding) DI, gives you race gas effective octane (AKI) form standard swill, if you have access to E85....all the better. TLDR; Don't abandon a technology because it intimidates or confuses you . |

I see where you're coming from OP. I have the "popping" noise and have had it for months now (at 15k mi now) I haven't heard it some time and called my dealer. They said they can't do anything if I can't replicate the issue and there's no CEL. So I'm pretty much waiting for her to explode. I'm a bit concerned about Subaru covering it since I have an intake and tune. I'm pretty much in fuck it mode right now and just driving the car normal. I still beat on her on the on ramps and such and have my fun (certainly nothing extreme). No autoX or track days so I'm not too worried. Just a daily fun driver.
Anyone here have experience with Subaru's warranties? Do you think they will deny my warranty when the engine blows because of the intake and tune? |

I was under the impression it was the other way around. THEY have to be able to prove that the part you installed caused the failure.

I'm all for warranty coverage, but I don't believe this should be covered. |

I'm speaking in generalities, but the Toyota dealership I go to has been REALLY cool with mods. The part itself is void and if it causes any obvious failure to another part, but my lowering springs didn't void out my entire suspension. Obviously a little different than modifying engine parameters, but still the basic idea. |

You'd have a very difficult time proving that it had a defect. Also, Ecutek, in the past, alters the ECU's handshake protocol so the dealer can't connect to it. Not sure if that's the case with the FR-S/BRZ, but we'll find out soon enough. |

To all the people saying to sell my car for an s2k or a miata... There's a reason I don't already own one of those... Simply put, I don't like them. Never been a fan of verts. End of discussion. Never anywhere did I say I was frightened or living under a rock with my D4S worries. Hell, I'm not even really that worried about it, If it blows up, the only thing I'll have to fight is the fact that I removed the secondary cat. No biggie there.
This was an honest question of curiosity and pursuit of knowledge, and so far this thread has been great.
